Modern Cafe Culture in the heart of Chester.
Whether it's a coffee in the morning, a light lunch on the terrace with a glass of wine from our eclectic selection, to an intimate dinner for two in the restaurant, we aim to offer something for everyone at every time of the day.
If you're not hungry join us for drinks in our bar area where you can sample some of our delicious in house cocktails.

This was our first visit to Shrub and it did not disappoint. The ‘tapas’ style menu was great as it gives you the opportunity to sample various food options. The food was served quickly and was delicious. We would definitely return

A meal at Shrub is like to other. We were a group of four and chose all 12 small plates plus the three different types of fries. The Szechuan fries were the best. It was a delight, with so many flavours and unusual dishes.

Some of the tastiest food I have ever had and a great selection of dishes, even the soft drinks on offer were interesting which is rare. (Alcohol also available.) Only one of our group is vegetarian but we all loved it.

Absolutely amazing time with work colleagues from France. Everything was delicious and meat-eaters were wholly won over to artichoke wings.

Fantastic vegan food. Even our non vegan guest loved it! Every dish was excellent. Particularly recommend the savoy cabbage - amazed at what can done with cabbage - incredible flavour. Too full for dessert so will save room next time. Also a lovely location in The Rows. We sat outside with heat lamps.

Our previous trip was on a Sunday. We enjoyed the Sunday “roast” so much we decided to come back to try the weekday offering. It was absolutely wonderful. We had a variety of dishes including potato terrine, savoy cabbage, teriyaki tofu and gnocci. All the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Ella served us. She remembered us from previous trips and was interested to hear what we liked about the restaurant and the food.
