Located in the heart of Great Bowden, a quintessential village on the outskirts of Market Harborough, The Shoulder of Mutton provides a unique Gastro/Classic Pub experience, boasting a large casual dining area and restaurant with access to our new garden area (coming Spring 2024).

Chef Luke is well known for his hearty meals including Sunday Roasts, Pie Nights, Tasting Evenings and Summer BBQs! With the opening of our "Whisky Cabinet", we are coming up with new and innovative ways to taste an array of cuisines with some top notch drinks to match.

With the canal literally down the road, you can walk here pleasantly from Market Harborough or even the Langtons, providing the perfect stopping point for a light bite or fill your face with one of our homemade burgers!

I am really sad I didn't get the bar maid and server's names as they have been so good and lovely the food was great value but the staff made our visit thank you

We often pop in after a walk for a drink. Very few places open on a Monday. We were pleased to find it open. It was quiet but in a nice way. Food good and the only reason didn’t give top marks was that a few things on menu unavailable or only one left. Service with a smile and as it was a Monday only one person to serve bar and tables. Didn’t keep us long though. Would recommend.

This was our return visit for Sunday Lunch after such a wonderful Lunch on the 28th April and once again it didn’t disappoint it was delicious! We were a party of 6 and not one of us could fault the food or the service, even though there was a private function on in the conservatory it didn’t affect the service. We all had starters, the prawn cocktail had an abundance of prawns and the homemade soup of the day (tomato) was delicious as were all the starters We had 4 lamb, 1 beef and the trio of meats all cooked perfectly with plenty of vegetables! Sadly couldn’t manage a dessert as we were all too full. We had a red and a rose bottle of wine which were really reasonable priced and very good. A lovely lunch once again in a lovely country pub.

Disappointing. Was excited to see several vegan choices and torn about what to have. Decided on the vegan bean chilli with jacket potato but the chilli seemed to be from a tin of mixed beans with no other vegetables and was really bland. The chips on the fish and chips weren’t very fresh at all presumably cooked and then reheated. There were only 2 other we tables in on a Thursday lunchtime and so there wasn’t any atmosphere and it all felt a bit flat. Our friend enjoyed her chicken panini and it was a good sized portion. But being foodies we probably wouldn’t come back again as we felt the food was very average. Such a shame as it’s a lovely pub in a beautiful village.

It wasn't the worst roast dinner I've ever had but not far off. All the meat was over cooked meaning it was dry. The whole place was generally dirty. Table was dirty, walls and window sills were dusty and had cobwebs on. A high chair was provided for my 18 month old daughter. The straps on the high chair were caked with dried old food. The salt and pepper shakers also had old food dried onto them. I was recommended to come here by a friend who it transpired must not like me very much as I wouldn't send my worst enemy here to eat, that would be too cruel.
