Shoals is hard to beat in terms of view. We have visited Shoals many times over the last three years and loved it, but it pains me to say the last few visits however haven't met the high standards set by previous visits. The most immediately noticeable difference is the serving staff - previously every member of staff who served us was really welcoming, friendly, fun and helpful. The current crew are not very welcoming or friendly or fun or helpful. I hate to use the word surly, but that is the word that best describes what we experienced during recent visits which is a real shame. One of our party asked if it would be possible to have her Torbay Sole served off-the-bone, the waitress said no, the kitchen was too busy - we had an 8.15 sitting, there were only two other tables still dining. When charging £27 for a fish, I don't think it is too much to ask the chef to take it off the bone, no matter how busy the restaurant is. While previously I would have described the food as outstanding, now I would describe it as average. I really hope it isn't the start of a slippery slope for Shoals as we have loved dining there for some time now. We'll give it one more go and will be keeping fingers crossed for an improvement in service standards in what used to be our standout preferred restaurant in Brixham.

Beautifully fresh, clean food with the most amazing flavours. We had the monkfish and king prawn curry and the monkfish and scallop in whisky and bacon creamy sauce. Both were perfection! Great portion sizes too. Will definitely return.

I was called on the afternoon of our booking. It was a rainy day and we had booked an outside table. Looking after us, we were offered an inside table at a slightly later time which was no problem It had brightened up by our original time, as it happens, but it was kind to be considered in tgat way. Now to tge nitty gritty. The restaurant looks a little unappealing from the outside but looks are definitely deceiving. It was small but cosy inside and the staff were very attentive and friendly THE FOOD WAS OUTSTANDING! I am gluten-free and this was well catered for (just let them know when booking!) The chowder was divine - so full if flavour and packed with fish Then i had a brill steak (special of the day) - it was HUGE, filled the plate, and so well cooked So no room for pud - altho there was a good selection Good selection of wine, if a little pricey Not the cheapest but certainly the best we visited whilst in this area

Shoals is my go-to restaurant for a meal out. Fabulous views, great chef, staff tirelessly helpful. Booking essential as it is tiny, but that is part of its appeal.

Top quality food, great fish, fabulous sea food chowder, but also check out the fish goujons! Definitely recommend the whole experience to anyone, but just remember to book to avoid disappointment, as they say!

We sat outside in the sunshine overlooking the sea, the food was amazing. We had the hot crab dip to share, hake fillet and skate wing for mains. The waitresses were attentive when we arrived, but when a large party came in after us that sat outside we had to go up to them and ask for another drink and then try to get their attention for the bill. Having said that they were very pleasant, just need to remember all your customers. We will 100% go back.
