Standing high above the city on the 10th floor of the City Club Apartments, at 309 Vine Street; resurrected from the history that has stood here before our time, Shires' Rooftop is inspired by the first amusement resort in this part of the country, Shires' Garden. Though the original Shires' Gardens burned to the ground, "in a most picturesque fire," the legacy that was left behind is everlasting and an integral part of the Queen City's history. The creation of the Matinee Performance, the regal guests Shires' hosted, an unsolved murder and other noteworthy events that took place at the original Shires' Gardens, are an inspiration to our program that we look forward to sharing with you.

    My only disappointment was the inability to get a hold of someone via phone, instagram or text prior to my visit with questions I had in regards to my reservation. They finally responded to y text however the day after my visit. Otherwise, the greenhouse experience was excellent!

    We had an lgloo. Very private, but on a completely non busy night, we were put all the way in the back, no city view, (reservations were made 2+weeks in advance with ANY time available). Then no heat for 30-45 minutes, despite requests, finally, manager resolved. Food AMAZING! Wine AMAZING! Service not quick, but friendly.

    We paid the extra $25 a person for the rooftop greenhouse experience that is advertised as a beautiful view of the city, but we were seated in a greenhouse in the back corner of the patio against the side of the building. We had a view of the restaurant window where the servers hung out at the bar and we could not see past the other 3 greenhouses. We were no where close to the balcony. Absolutely terrible view. We could see a couple making out in their greenhouse right across from us. Could not see any part of the city, completely blocked view from all angles. It was our 5 year anniversary too and I wrote the restaurant a message before hand telling them it was a special night for us and we never go out. There was an open greenhouse with a view of the city they could’ve seated us in instead, since nobody used it our entire dinner. I was Super disappointed and would not recommend this restaurant. They didn’t care about our special night and they didn’t care about their customers experience. They should just get rid of this one specific greenhouse.

    My wife and I went there for a date night and reserved the greenhouse room on the patio and were treated like kings and queens. We had the most kind server and the experience as well as the food was superb.

    We had a 10:45 pm reservation on the rooftop for NYE. We prepaid nearly $250 for a 3 course meal with a midnight toast and 20% gratuity. We were not sat until 11:50. We requested our Champaign for the midnight toast and ordered a drink. It was 12:25 am before we got them. We were told the "limited menu" for our meal was out of several main dishes, including the filet which I had hoped to order. When our food arrived to the table, we were brought our salads, sides and entrees all at the same time. The chicken and salmon were overcooked, but we were starving by then so we ate it anyway. The waitress dropped everything off and didn't return to check on us until we had nearly finished all of the food. We requested to place our dessert order and were informed that the only options left were sorbet or vanilla ice cream, neither of which were even on the menu for our prepaid meal! We declined both options. We were able to see the al a cart prices for the food we did order, and realized if we had just paid for our salad and entrees, and no dessert, we would've paid about half of what we actually spent on the prepaid experience. Since every aspect of our night went wrong and we weren't given the services we paid for, we requested a refund of our meal or at minimum, the gratuity since we received very poor service all evening (with the exception of one bartender who was trying to help throughout the night). The manager told us he was unable to refund our meal but offered us a $75 gift card. Displeased with that alternative, he then stated he couldn't refund the money because we had purchased through Open Table and it would have to be processed through them, although the policy on open tables website says to handle disputes directly with the restaurant. I am unsure if I actually will get a refund or not. There was another couple having the same experience as us. We ended up sharing the igloo with them as we tried to make the most of the night. Would rate 0 stars if possible.

    Unfortunately, as much as I have enjoyed this restaurant in the past, New Year’s Eve was awful! Even though they had a pre-planned menu and we had to pay ahead of time, they ran out of almost everything by our reservation time. The service was poor. The waitstaff was overwhelmed and I think our server was crying because other patrons were so upset about them being out of food. They even ran out of all desserts. That’s right. We couldn’t even have the dessert from the pre-paid, pre-planned menu. Even more of a disappointment was that there was absolutely no ringing in of the new year. A football game played on tv. There was no announcement and no formal New Year celebration.

    Any criticism I have is for management only. The wait staff were wonderful and the service I received was excellent. HOWEVER, we made a 9:30 pm reservation for the NYE dinner, and by the time we got there many of the food items for the dinner were gone. When we did this same dinner a few years ago this was not a problem. Our waitress was fantastic and very helpful, but this was certainly an issue of poor planning on the part of management. Something that also happened is that there were frequent issues with other people’s reservations, and since we were seated by the hostess stand we had to frequently listen to heated arguments between customers and staff. The atmosphere was very tense and made it difficult to enjoy conversations between my friends and I. Overall I think this is my last year doing this dinner.

    I recently dined with friends for the pre-fixe NYE menu, expecting a memorable evening, especially given the nearly $600 price tag for our group. Unfortunately, the experience was far from what we anticipated. We chose the highly anticipated greenhouse dining experience, assured it would be heated, but it was anything but. The temperature was uncomfortably cold, making it difficult to enjoy the evening. Adding to our disappointment, many appetizers were unavailable when we arrived, and they were out of nearly everything on the main courses. For dessert, the only option left was ice cream—hardly what one expects from a fine dining establishment at this price point. Service was abysmally slow and inattentive. It took an excessive amount of time to receive our food, and when my salmon arrived, it was incorrect. While the rest of the table ate their meals, I had to wait an additional 20 minutes for my dish. Despite these significant issues, not once did a manager stop by to check on our table, apologize, or attempt to address our concerns. This was especially disappointing as I was looking forward to sharing a special evening with friends, including one visiting from out of town. It used to be known for its excellent food and exceptional service, but it has clearly declined significantly. For the cost, I expected much better. Sadly, I cannot recommend this restaurant. Giving it one star feels generous.

    This place could be really nice, as it has a great ambiance and drinks. DO NOT go here for a pre-fixed menu on a holiday. We made reservations for NYE as the marketed menu looked great. The advertisement was nothing but a smoke show. The restaurant was not prepared with enough food and took more reservations than they could accommodate. We were seated an hour after our reservation time and then we were left with all of the decent food choices already gone. All the red meat options were gone and literally all of the dessert options were gone. So we ended up spending $240 for overcooked and cold fish and some artichoke dip. Left extremely disappointed. The worst dining experience we’ve had in Cincinnati.
