Soak up our friendly service and homely charm when nestled in this welcoming pub located in the heart of Stanpit village on Dorset's south coast. Here at the Ship in Distress, we are the perfect retreat to sit back, relax and indulge in our delicious food with the perfect drink in hand. We love our coastal location and our bar pays tribute to this with a fittingly traditional nautical theme! Dogs are welcome and we've got a large car park for visitors and plenty of seating space. Our traditional pub classics are expertly crafted from our seasonal menus and the bar is crammed with local ales and tipples to tempt any taste buds. Using the most seasonal ingredients and decadent flavours, there's a dish for every desire.

    Always best service and atmosphere. Food was good. Service was good. Alcohol was good. Hangover next day not good

    The staff were warm and welcoming. The food was good and well presented. Service was swift and efficient. We had our dog with us and she was made welcome.

    Food was great had the Sunday lunch, was delicious and so much on the plate for the cost. Other people had the belly of pork and was so tender and delicious. Rump steak a bit chewy. Great setting staff attentive and friendly. 10/10 will definitely go back, on holiday here from Australia visiting family in the area.

    You couldn’t fault the food and service. Great to have their own car park too. Place was a little tired looking!

    Brilliant afternoon at the Ship In Distress with the family .. We had such a warm welcome by the staff who were run of there feet as always due to being a Sunday .. The roast was fantastic as always and we will be back later on in the month ..

    A gem of a pub. Parking easy..good menu...good prices....lovely bar area...restaurant area and garden. I am surprised I haven't been before but will be making many more visits.

    We always have a lovely meal here. When we are on holiday we use this pub regularly to eat and drink.

    Booking was easy. Staff were very pleasant and the Sunday roast was superb. The whole eating out experience was great.

    What a rare delight to find a pub which combines old-fashioned service and thoughtfulness, good value great tasting food and a pleasant ambience. The team know what they are doing unlike most pubs you visit which are staffed by people who evidently have had no training and apparently have no interest in the job they have been employed to do, well done to the team at the Ship in Distress!!
