I have always loved this restaurant and found the food to be excellent. I was somewhat disappointed by my recent visit. The food and service were good, but not excellent. The menu range had reduced.

Quirky to order through ipad at the table but very prompt service! Food delicious as always, one of our favourites!

The food here is consistently good, with a focus on tasty comfort food rather than innovative dishes. The service was a little strained on this busy night. Noise levels were high, impacting on the ambience of this otherwise authentic Japanese dining experience.

Shinmachi is consistently awesome. As a local we’ve been a number of times. It is always good. Great ambience, waiters and chefs are genuinely grateful you are there, food is delicious and it was all so quick! Loved it and will come again

Food is delicious, but service left us with a bad taste in the mouth. First booking on a Sunday night, requested a nice table to celebrate an anniversary, the host first question if we could leave at 7pm, which is not a problem if she wasn’t so rude. Order through the iPad, which again not a problem, but all staff seems to be in an angry mood or just annoyed you are at the restaurant, don’t you dare to ask question they will be rude too, after a dinner of almost $200 when paying I was mentioned if I want to leave a tip, I would leave a tip for the boh team, unfortunately the service is too bad to enjoy the night, maybe next time will do just take away.

On arrival told “table back by 7.30pm sharp” - was a 6pm booking. No option for regular menu only a pre-loved ipad. Cold starters & warm main course all arrived at once. 10% added to bill for it being a Saturday. Server asked for tip to be added.

It is a nice place. The food is excellent, with some surprising twists. Service can be a bit chaotic but is good overall. Cocktails were served a bit slow but amazing.
