Having always been at the heart of Valley life, the 17th century Shibden Mill Inn was originally a corn and spinning mill, before being converted into a country pub in 1890.

Today’s visitors are welcomed with warm hospitality to enjoy first class dining against an inviting backdrop of open fires, low beamed ceilings and a cosy bar. Eleven individually styled bedrooms make comfortable and luxurious retreats, epitomising boutique country style and featuring lots of thoughtful touches.

And if you can drag yourself away from the Inn, there are wonderful walks from the doorstep and world class attractions within easy reach. For a spot of retail therapy or a cultural fix, Halifax is a 10-minute drive and Leeds is just 30 minutes away.

A lovely olde worldly restaurant . Great food and service. A little expensive but worth it. Second visit here and it was as good as the first.

All four of us thought that this was the best meal out this year. Between us we had either halibut or hogget. Exceptional cooking and decent portions along with a side of potatoes between two. Wish the inn was closer to home!

Superb meal as always. A gorgeous, atmospheric place with excellent service. I took a friend who had not been before and she loved it too.

In short, quite easily the best food in the West Yorkshire / Calderdale area and meets the expectation of its nationally awarded reputation. Nice mix of extremely well executed pub classics alongside more restaurant-based dishes. I've had worse meals in Michelin-starred restaurants TBH - it's flavour-forward and the standard - as mentioned - is high. Inside is dark and ancient with bags of character, but worry not, there's a large, well-appointed terrace for summer. Service is relaxed, perhaps a bit too much so at times. And although I get the reasoning behind no cloths on the lovely antique tables, considering the price point, linen napkins and a higher standard of cutlery would better fit the overall vibe and aspiration. But these are minor quibbles, it is a pub after all - and a very, very good one at that. Will be back.

Don’t eat much meat so beer battered fish was ordered. Dark and crispy just perfect. Homemade tartare sauce and minted peas with chunky chips. Portions were generous. My partner opted for fries. Both plates cleaned but unfortunately no room for dessert. We couldn’t fault anything including the service. Ordered a couple of drinks afterwards and sat outside as the weather was glorious. Lovely setting. Will definitely return
