Shanghai 1814 is an exceptional destination restaurant in an iconic listed building in the heart of Southampton. You won’t have experienced anything quite like it. This is where East meets West in a cacophony of flavour, style, colour and vibrancy. Shanghai 1814 is so-called as the owner’s ancestors opened their first restaurant in Shanghai in 1814 – the time of the Qing Dynasty, China’s final imperial dynasty.

This combination of traditional European architecture with exuberant Chinese interior design is dynamic and exciting. Welcome to Shanghai 1814 and enjoy the ultimate dining experience.

Wow-factor interiors are decadent and glamorous, draped in dazzling chandeliers and adorned with cherry blossom. The menus feature contemporary Chinese dishes that are fresh and flavoursome, created by a Chef who previously worked at Michelin-starred Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair.

Our second time at this beautiful restaurant and I'm pleased to say we weren't disappointed. From the warm greeting you get on entry to the waiting staff to the food - everything is first class. We were seated upstairs this time which gave a different view of the amazing decor in this beautiful restaurant. The food is some of the nicest Chinese food I've ever eaten. We went for the Taste of Sekura set menu. The prawn toast was the best I've ever tasted, full of plump prawns and so tasty. The Peking duck was everything you expect it to be. The main of beef fillet in black pepper was exceptional, such tender strips of beef in the most beautiful sauce. The chicken in the sweet and sour was succulent and in no way dry. All in all the whole evening was superb. I would recommend to anyone and we will definitely be returning.

Such a beautiful restaurant. As soon as we stepped through the doors they were very attentive. Service was absolutely impeccable! Down to the ordering of the door, the timing it came to our table. Couldn’t find any fault with the evening. Was celebrating my birthday and they even gave me desert with a candle. The waiters sang happy birthday. Which made the moment even more special. A wonderful evening with a beautiful atmosphere. Would definitely come back again x

Brilliant! I have been twice now and each time I have ordered different food, both times the dishes have been some of the best food I have ever had. We will definitely be back again soon.

We decided to come to Shanghai 1814 for our anniversary meal, and it didn’t disappoint! Service was outstanding, food and drinks were amazing and very prompt. We went for the taste of Sakura set menu for 2 and it was amazing. I definitely recommend this menu and also the food! Will be back again in the future.
