Shanghai 1814 is an exceptional destination restaurant in an iconic listed building in the heart of Southampton. You won’t have experienced anything quite like it. This is where East meets West in a cacophony of flavour, style, colour and vibrancy. Shanghai 1814 is so-called as the owner’s ancestors opened their first restaurant in Shanghai in 1814 – the time of the Qing Dynasty, China’s final imperial dynasty.

This combination of traditional European architecture with exuberant Chinese interior design is dynamic and exciting. Welcome to Shanghai 1814 and enjoy the ultimate dining experience.

Wow-factor interiors are decadent and glamorous, draped in dazzling chandeliers and adorned with cherry blossom. The menus feature contemporary Chinese dishes that are fresh and flavoursome, created by a Chef who previously worked at Michelin-starred Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair.

Recommended by a friend and he was spot on. The food was excellent, beautifully presented, high quality ingredients, generous portions and very tasty. We had a private booth for the five of us and it was great, could actually easily hear each other but still be part of the restaurant atmosphere. The staff were lovely, attentive, professional and fun. The decorations are based around seriously shiny tiles and a huge white ‘tree’ , it’s great and very atmospheric

Absolutely fantastic meal! The food was delicious, the service was impeccable, and the cocktails were simply divine. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience. I've already told all my friends they need to visit!

Incredible night. Food was absolutely spot on. Would highly recommend veg dish “morning glory”. Had private booth which was very nice at no extra cost. Service as always was impeccable. Best Chinese around. Thank you for a great evening.

Great service and the best food! Lovely extra touch that they brought birthday cake. We will definitely be returning.

Absolutely amazing! Had a brilliant time for our anniversary. Exciting food, great portion sizes, friendly and attentive service (without being invasive!). Will be back very soon.

Beautiful setting, felt important being shown to our seat and serviette placed in your laps, food then was excellent but felt very very rushed and offered a drink once, and was rushed through our starter and main meal …. Main meal could have been hotter and the don’t forget to add the service charge of 12.5% to your bill ! ! !

This restaurant is extremely good. We have eaten here several times and cannot fault the food, ambiance or the service standard. The only focus would be the cost being at the upper end, but you get what you pay for. We would recommend to others for a memorable evening out.
