Shanghai 1814 is an exceptional destination restaurant in an iconic listed building in the heart of Southampton. You won’t have experienced anything quite like it. This is where East meets West in a cacophony of flavour, style, colour and vibrancy. Shanghai 1814 is so-called as the owner’s ancestors opened their first restaurant in Shanghai in 1814 – the time of the Qing Dynasty, China’s final imperial dynasty.

This combination of traditional European architecture with exuberant Chinese interior design is dynamic and exciting. Welcome to Shanghai 1814 and enjoy the ultimate dining experience.

Wow-factor interiors are decadent and glamorous, draped in dazzling chandeliers and adorned with cherry blossom. The menus feature contemporary Chinese dishes that are fresh and flavoursome, created by a Chef who previously worked at Michelin-starred Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair.

Delicious food in a beautifully designed interior. Staff were all incredibly friendly. Our waiter was relatively new so he did need to go off and ask a few questions but he was extremely helpful. Would be worthwhile the restaurant allowing him to taste the menu so that he fully knows what he is serving and can advise clients. We visited on a relatively quiet lunch time so noise levels were low and we all dined from the 2-course £21 lunch menu and the size of portions were more than generous. Their main menu isn't a cheap dining experience but the food is certainly worth it. I'm not local but will certainly return to this restaurant when back in Southampton. I always guage cleanliness from the state of the bathrooms and I have no complaints with this restaurant.

First time visiting for my daughters 17th birthday. Although at first glance some dishes looked expensive, the dishes were generous. Very good food, large portions which caught us out as over ordered but was saved by a cool doggy bag to enjoy rest-overs the next day! Free birthday cake slice for my daughter was a nice touch. Will come back again.

The moment you walk into the restaurant you are greeted and made welcome the service is second to none the food is amazing .I would recommend that you visit this restaurant if you’re in Southampton

Fabulous restaurant, service and food. On this particular night, we were seated upstairs with very little atmosphere or other people eating. Quite disappointing.

Quality of food very good but prices expensive for what you get as bill also includes 12.5% service charge taking into consideration our £28 basic bottle of Merlot wine actually cost £31.50. Too dark and noisy, think they need to decide whether they are a fine dining restaurant or a nightclub.

Excellent food, really good service, lovely looking restaurant. Went with my daughter for her birthday. At the end of our meal our waitress bought a slice of cake with happy birthday on it and sang to her. It was an unexpected surprise that really made my daughters night. (14) And mine. I've been here before with my partner and will definitely come again. Great place
