Selden Standard’s fare features flavors born in local farms, captured at the peak of the season, prepared in their wood-fired oven, and served small plates-style in shareable portions. Complementing the menu are wines from small producers, distinctive brews, and cocktails to suit the seasons. Selden is rustic and casual, but with an ever-present eye for quality, creativity, and fun. Chef Andy Hollyday is a 2023 James Beard finalist and four-time semi-finalist. Selden Standard was named a semi-finalist for Outstanding Restaurant by the James Beard Foundation (2024), and has been named Restaurant of the Year by both the Detroit Free Press (2015) and Hour Detroit (2016).

Regulars keep swinging back to Selden Standard for small plates and craft cocktails in a cool industrial space that USA Today named one of the best restaurants of 2024. Local and seasonal produce shows up in dishes like charred octopus from the woodfired oven and seasonal fresh pastas like sweet corn agnolotti. Loved Selden Standard! The food options, the family-style approach, the menu organization, locally purveyed ingredients - all of it! Beautiful restaurant with an incredible patio area. HIGHLY recommend.

I was surprised by our recent experience. We had a reservation for Sat. We stood at the host entry with no acknowledgement or greeting. Then we were asked “have you been helped?” We were sure who was supposed to have assisted us beyond them. It unfortunately didn’t leave a welcoming impression. We were seated within 10-15 min of the reservation. The cocktails were tasty (4.5/5 stars). The vegetarian plates were ‘just ok.’ The salad that accompanied the crispy duck was too salty. The cavetelli was very savory and flavorful, so there were bright spots. We’ve had prior positive experience here through the years, but overall meal, and the ambiance (noise level and initial lack of customer service) we off putting.

As good as advertised, if not better. Outstanding use of seasonal vegetables, perfectly cooked mains, sharp and informed service, plus an excellent cocktail/wine program. One of the best meals in quite some time.

Selden Standard is our favorite restaurant in Detroit. (And we've eaten at a lot of restaurants in the city.) We've been coming here for years -- a visit to southeast MI isn't complete without at least a visit or two. The wood-fired oven is EVERYTHING and the cocktails are always on point. Perfect for a special occasion (we celebrated my mom-in-law's bday here last night), a meal before or after a show, or just for those moments when you want a nice evening out to enjoy flavorful, creative dishes in an industrial-chic environment. The staff is also great -- this place never disappoints!

Another fantastic experience at Selden Standard! The service was great (thank you, Ashley!) and the food was delicious. Together, it made another family birthday dinner all that much more special!

This is a great restaurant. While I have been here 4 times I’ve eaten the vegetarian options for 3 of the times because of how mind blowing good they are. My date ordered the beet salad. I hate beets, but decided to try it to be agreeable at the table. It was beyond incredible. I mean if this would have been my first time eating beets I would be a lifetime beet lover. I don’t know what they did to make them taste that good but they did it, so bravo. In the end, I honestly think the food here is creative and extremely tasteful. I’m now looking for another reason to go back. Love it.

Selden Standard sets the bar by which we measure all other restaurants. We've been coming here for 10 years and have never had a bad experience. The food, drinks, service and ambiance are consistently excellent!

If you’re looking for a great, fun, place to eat Seldom Standard is a whole vibe. Me and my girlfriend had the Bucatini Pasta in which Selden Standard was very accommodating with adding mushrooms to the meal for us, Oven Roasted Patatas which was all amazing and recommended by our hostess Margo S. Who was very knowledgeable about the meals. The mood was great and accompanied by beautiful music and great people. We will definitely be coming back for our date nights there.
