Selden Standard’s fare features flavors born in local farms, captured at the peak of the season, prepared in their wood-fired oven, and served small plates-style in shareable portions. Complementing the menu are wines from small producers, distinctive brews, and cocktails to suit the seasons. Selden is rustic and casual, but with an ever-present eye for quality, creativity, and fun. Chef Andy Hollyday is a 2023 James Beard finalist and four-time semi-finalist. Selden Standard was named a semi-finalist for Outstanding Restaurant by the James Beard Foundation (2024), and has been named Restaurant of the Year by both the Detroit Free Press (2015) and Hour Detroit (2016).

Exceptional service and dinner here, as always. The grilled octopus and the cavatelli with a fennel sausage ragú were our favorites.

It’s always good. Service is great and the staff is very accommodating. It’s our go to place for an upscale dining experience.

Loved Selden Standard! The food options, the family-style approach, the menu organization, locally purveyed ingredients - all of it! Beautiful restaurant with an incredible patio area. HIGHLY recommend.

Outstanding meal! Food was highlight of our trip to Michigan. We sat outside on the patio on a warm September evening. Lovely!

We were seated within 10-15 min of the reservation after being overlooked/ignored initially with the host staff. The cocktails were tasty (4.5/5 stars). The vegetarian plates (mushrooms, zucchini pasta, and roasted onions) were ‘just ok.’ The salad that accompanied the crispy duck was too salty. The cavetelli was very savory and flavorful. We’ve had prior positive experiences here through the years, but the ambiance felt more exclusive, less welcoming, with an intense noise level and the overall meal was not as enjoyable as past visits.

As good as advertised, if not better. Outstanding use of seasonal vegetables, perfectly cooked mains, sharp and informed service, plus an excellent cocktail/wine program. One of the best meals in quite some time.

Selden Standard is our favorite restaurant in Detroit. (And we've eaten at a lot of restaurants in the city.) We've been coming here for years -- a visit to southeast MI isn't complete without at least a visit or two. The wood-fired oven is EVERYTHING and the cocktails are always on point. Perfect for a special occasion (we celebrated my mom-in-law's bday here last night), a meal before or after a show, or just for those moments when you want a nice evening out to enjoy flavorful, creative dishes in an industrial-chic environment. The staff is also great -- this place never disappoints!
