The Seaside Shanty has been a pillar in the community of Chester Basin for over forty years, providing guests with friendly and attentive service and the best that the coastal waters have to offer. Not only is it a completely scratch kitchen, The Seaside Shanty is committed to using local suppliers/farmers as much as possible and is touted for having the best chowder and lobster roll on the south shore!!

Have been eating at this restaurant for over 10 years but found this time to be less impressive than what we have come to expect. By no means a bad meal, just that we generally have come away from there raving how exceptional the experience was. Not this time.

Even INside, the view is lovely and the atmosphere relaxed and pleasant. The service was just right and the food was most satisfying. I look forward to my next visit!

Delicious fresh seafood beautifully presented. Excellent service. And you must try the biscuits with molasses!

Always have an amazing experience at the seaside shanty. I think they should have retractable doors that open up the indoor dining area so they can fit more people “outside.” The patio is the best spot! :)

I had great hopes for the Seaside Shanty from the great reviews however while somethings were definitely stellar others were not. The location is definitely excellent right on the water in Chester Bay. We did not have a table that had a view of the water but the interior was open and bright. We were right next to the speakers which made it difficult to hear at times. It is a busy restaurant so consider making a reservation if you are going during peak times. I had the lobster roll and found it not flavourful and kind of dry in taste as the mayo which generally holds the lobster filling together was thin and watery. The pickles they used to add a salty texture to the roll did not really work. There were also bits of lobster shell left in the filling but that is always a possibility with a lobster roll. The green salad that I ordered instead of fries was outstanding. It was just greens but the dressing was incredibly tasty and like nothing I or any of the rest of my table have had before. Clearly some thought went into its creation. The lemon posit I had for dessert was delicious. The lemon curd was tart and sweet at the same time as being very lemony. The crumble topping gave a lovely contrast in texture. My friends loved the ceviche, liked the seafood chowder but found the reuben simply OK although the fries which came with it were tasty. The ice cream bar was excellent and ended up being shared by more than one at the table. The service and the kitchen were slow due to their staffing levels. Unfortunately this is something that many restaurants are experiencing now so we found it completely understandable. The servers were pleasant and helpful despite being so busy.

Second time in one week. Extremely pleasant and prompt service, well thought out menu and food options, lovely decor and a fantastic setting.
