‘Great British food in a striking riverside mill’

A true hidden gem, Sculthorpe Mill is a breath taking pub buried in the heart of the glorious Norfolk countryside built atop the River Wensum. Originally a watermill dating back to 1757, it has been lovingly restored by sisters Siobhan and Caitriona Peyton and they have created a haven for foodies and pub lovers alike, as well as one of the best pub gardens in Norfolk. This is a stunning contemporary dining pub, complete with chic bedrooms and a menu of expertly crafted modern British dishes.

Sculthorpe Mill’s seasonal menu changes regularly to make the most of Norfolk’s bountiful produce and all our core ingredients are locally sourced, foraged from land and sea before being passionately turned into award-winning dishes.

Come spring and summer, our garden is the ideal pace to enjoy an evening meal alfresco, or even just a crisp glass of rosé as you listen to the rush of the river or the buzzing of bees in the flower garden.

The staff at Sculthorpe Mill could not have done more to accommodate us - lovely atmosphere , really enjoyed our stay

A lovely warm welcome. We were given a choice of where to sit. All staff were friendly and efficient, we were served promptly and the food was delicious, one of our 'medium' steaks was nearer 'medium/well' we mentioned this to our server, she offered to take it back to the kitchen but we said that wasn't necessary, when she returned to the table a little later, she said she had reduced the meal by 25% to compensate for the disappointment, a lovely gesture. My husband's 'medium rare' was perfect. We had two liquer coffees and two desserts to round off a fabulous restaurant experience.

First thing to say is food and the actual place are stunning. So I’d give it a 4/5, as it’s a nice place and the food was good, I just didn’t think the whole thing was 5 stars vs 5 star prices. It was just very expensive, which I don’t mind if I feel like I feel like it’s an outstanding experience. We ask 2 questions about the menu, waitress didn’t know what one of the items was. Which if it was a standard pub I wouldn’t have minded. But when mains are £40 a pop, I’d expect the menu to be known by staff. They’d then run out of an item on the kids menu. 2 of us and a child. We shared a bread, had 2 adult mains only and kids main and some ice cream. 1 drink each, came to £137. Food was good, but not £40 a person good. We’d 100% go again for a drink and bar snacks maybe, as the pubs stunning and really nice inside. But just didn’t feel the price matched the service and food overall.

We had previously lunched at the Mill in warm weather, when we were able to sit outside, but this time we ate indoors, which was equally delightful. Both times the food was excellent. Portions are not the largest, but flavour, presentation, and the quality of the ingredients are all unbeatable in our experience of eating at many gastro pubs and restaurants all over Norfolk. One of the best. We will be back!

Second time we have dined at Sculthorpe Mill in the last year. We have also been for drinks in the lovely garden in the summer. Sculthorpe Mill has a cosy ambience and a great menu. The front of house staff were friendly and attentive without being imposing. The food was excellent. One of our favourite places to eat.

First time in Sculthorpe Mill and absolutely loved it! The was marvellous, the ambience was cosy and everyone was very nice. Will definitely come back.
