‘Great British food in a striking riverside mill’

A true hidden gem, Sculthorpe Mill is a breath taking pub buried in the heart of the glorious Norfolk countryside built atop the River Wensum. Originally a watermill dating back to 1757, it has been lovingly restored by sisters Siobhan and Caitriona Peyton and they have created a haven for foodies and pub lovers alike, as well as one of the best pub gardens in Norfolk. This is a stunning contemporary dining pub, complete with chic bedrooms and a menu of expertly crafted modern British dishes.

Sculthorpe Mill’s seasonal menu changes regularly to make the most of Norfolk’s bountiful produce and all our core ingredients are locally sourced, foraged from land and sea before being passionately turned into award-winning dishes.

Come spring and summer, our garden is the ideal pace to enjoy an evening meal alfresco, or even just a crisp glass of rosé as you listen to the rush of the river or the buzzing of bees in the flower garden.

Amazing food, service and atmosphere. I went with my wife on a date night. We just had the best time. We enjoyed some drinks in the bar first. A very good Guinness and a perfect Espresso Martini for my wife. All of the many dishes we tried were fantastic and the staff were really helpful and friendly.

Dining experience very relaxing sadly our main courses were not worth the cost. Starters were extremely tasty and well presented. Menu could have been more interesting.

Another tour de force from Norfolk's best restaurant... The food was excellent. The Mackarel Tartare had robust citrus accents to combine with a sauce than was sublime. The Monkfish Curry offer an explosion of tastes and was perfectly cooked... all enhanced by a powerful Georgian red wine off a comprehensive wine list that invites you to explore... This is one of those rare combinations of quality and value for money that keeps you coming back for more: Bravo!!!

What a great find. We had a wonderful lunch. It was a great atmosphere, cosy and welcoming. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable but not intrusive. The food was fantastic. The Hake was very good and served with turnips which was a brilliant surprise. My friends favourite was the mackerel tartar, which was light and delicate. I was driving so i tried out some Non Alcoholic cocktails while my friend enjoyed the wine. The one i liked the most was On the Watermill. Great lunch drink. We went to the bar after lunch after to carry on talking and soak up the atmosphere. It just felt good. I could happily sit there for hours I enjoyed the lunch so much I have already booked a family dinner. Highly recommend.

Wonderful lunch today. Warmly welcomed by the bar and shown through to our table immediately. We loved the menu. The sound of the sharing pie was tempting but opted for some local Oysters to share followed by a Norfolk pork chop and Hake with Brancaster mussels. Food was fantastic. Sculthorpe Mill lived up to its Michelin recognition. We shared the Tart Tatin for pudding. We have already rebooked our next visit.

Really poor experience for Sunday lunch at Sculthorpe Mill. Our table was booked for 1.30, there was 6 of us. All started well, we were shown to our table and our order for drinks and then food was taken. Everything from there then went downhill, it took over 45 mins to bring out 1 starter of pate and toast and 2 plates of bread and butter. We eventually received our main course 1 hour 30 mins after initially sitting down and this was after me chasing after our food. Nobody came to update us on the progress of our food, replenish cutlery or giving us the opportunity to order more drinksI Idecided to go to the bar to order the drinks but stood there for easily 5/10 minutes before being served, there was nobody else waiting at the bar but the staff were too busy doing orders for other tables and I felt ignored!! To add insult to injury when our main meals did arrive 2 of them had to be sent back as they were luke warm. We were told that everything was cooked to order however I do not believe this to be the case. The steaks were tough and dried out, they had obviously been sitting around a while. The overall quality of the food was very poor. We did express our disappointment with the overall service and food and we were given a discount off the bill, but we shall not be returning to the Mill in the foreseeable future.
