I was pleasantly surprised with my first experience at Scholar. We went for dinner with another couple and sat in the lower level. The ambiance was just what I wanted. Very cozy elegant atmosphere with a beautiful fireplace, like being in a 1920’s study in an old mansion. The music was chill and not too loud. Service was excellent. Our waitress was tentative, but not imposing. The food was amazing. The bison meatballs and crab cakes were excellent, especially the crab cakes. I had a medium rare filet with the roasted potatoes, asparagus, and a fondue sauce. My goodness, it was cooked to perfection. The drinks were good. I didn’t much like my whiskey sour. There really wasn’t much in the glass with that huge square ice cube and the taste was kind of bland. I did really enjoy this lavender drink on the non-alcoholic list, but I added vodka. The price was pretty expensive but expected for this level of dining. I wasn’t shocked at the $200 bill for 2 people with an appetizer, 2 steak dinners, and 4 alcoholic beverages. I will definitely be back when I am in the mood for a lovely fine-dining experience.

Loved the ambiance. Great feel. Salads were amazing. Short rib okay (very fatty). Salmon excellent. Had a drink at the bar on the main level first. Really enjoyed the different feel of the two floors.

Love this place. The ambiance is amazing. The cocktails perfection. The service outstanding. And if you like clams, the clams casino appetizer is a must.

I expected overpriced small portions consistent with downtown Grand Rapids. I was pleasantly surprised to find moderately priced, average portion delicious food. Rhea, our server, was excellent, attentive to our needs and extremely knowledgeable. Will make Scholar a regular stop when we visit GR.

This was our first time dining at the Scholar and we will be back. Ambience was great, food was spectacular, great drinks, and friendly service.

Great atmosphere in the whole place. Way too pricey, too expensive, food was ok. drink are way over priced, way too pricey for something simple as an old fashioned 15 dollars for that way too much and its nothing extraordinary at all and its not even made with the most expensive bourbon. had two different cocktails, too pricey and they were lacking liquor in my opinion for a 15 dollar cocktail it could have been much stronger ,both of the cocktails were kinda flat and mostly juice. it was fun to try something new but will not be back, I can get so many more better cocktail at other places for a less of a price and much better taste.

We were looking for someplace new to celebrate our anniversary. What a gem! We selected the "Pallor" area of Scholar. It's the upper level of the three options. Very bright and open, with large windows overlooking Ionia Ave and skylights. High ceilings and good spacing between tables keep the noise level low. Our server, Seth, was fantastic. Just the right level of attention and engagement for us. He was very friendly and welcoming, watching to be sure we had everything we needed. The menu was not vast, but seemed just right for selection options. We had the scallops and lamb t-bones. Both entrees were perfect! Wonderful presentation and quality. Desserts options were solid with an amazing hot fudge brownie and ice and a new option of gluten free carrot cake. I do not favor gluten free, but took a flyer and went with it under the recommendation of Seth. Wow, super good flavor and texture. Treat yourself to a great experience and got to Scholar!
