Originally built in 1887 as the third post office in Queensland, the iconic Sandgate Post Office has a new lease on life. Stylish and quintessentially Sandgate, it is a destination venue with an elegant gastro-pub restaurant, a vibrant main bar, a whiskey vault and sun-soaked alfresco dining.

Standing proud in Sandgate for 135 years, the heritage of the building has been embraced with a renovation that honours the role the Post Office has had in the community for over a century. Located on the corner of Bowser Parade and Rainbow Street across the road from the Sandgate rail station, it is once again set to be a landmark for the Sandgate community.

If you cancel within 24 hours of your reservation, there is a $40 pp cancellation fee. If you or any number of your party do not show on the day of the reservation, there is no refund.

Overall we had a lovely evening. Kids meals were huge, Roast for 2 could have been a bit bigger. Lovely decor and staff were very friendly, we had to wait nearly an hour for our food and they were not very busy.

Returning customers. Have eaten a few times here and always try something different, never had a bad meal there yet.

I was utterly disappointed that my reservation made weeks in advance for a booth was cancelled. Last minute and without ensuring I was aware and accepted this amendment. We turned up for our special cocktail birthday dinner at 6pm to be advised we were relocated to a garden setting and that a message had been sent that afternoon. I was advised someone with an earlier time got my booth ! The Post Office Hotel does do good food and has great service and ambience but sorry - if patrons can so easily be disregarded in this manner they don't get my vote anymore. And I am a locall who supports local.

We apologise for your experience. When customers request for a booth we always try to reserve one for them. When we cant fulfil the request we contact the customer which we did on this occasion. You should have received a text and email. As it was Fathers Day we were fully booked however set up a table for you in our Garden area. We apologise this was not suitable for your occasion.

I would highly recommend the Sandgate Post Office Hotel. The hotel has been decorated beautifully and the staff were great. We all enjoyed our delicious meals and drinks.

We had a lovely High Tea and would return and recommend. The food was lovely could have been a bit more assortment of savoury food. Were a little disappointed that we were moved table before our time was up, but overall was amazing. Thanks so much.

Fathers Fay is probably not a good day to judge as the venue was very busy. Otherwise consistency wise they always perform well.

Hi Colleen, Thank you for the feedback. Fathers Day we were booked out across the venue and everyone arrived at once which pushed our kitchen times out. We did let patrons know and apologise for the wait. Usually our wait times are on average 25 minutes. hope to see you again soon :)

Service very good, most meals very good. Crab Meat Lasange was bland (missing something to give it a boost...maybe a touch of basil)

Thank you for the feedback. Bland isnt the word that people usually use to describe our Crab Meat Lasagna as it is full of flavour. We try to not make the flavour too strong as people veer away from anything 'fishy'. We have brought it up with our Head Chef as he prides himself on consistency. It is one of our most popular dishes so will monitor it. Hope to see you again soon :)

Very excited about our first visit. Booked for 5pm so we could leave by 6.15pm as we had a performance at the Town Hall for 6.30pm. Began to worry when an hour later there was no food and only 1 table before us. Waitstaff were kindly concerned but said another 15mins. Two of our 4 were just having entrees so eventually they arrived and we ate as much as we could and raced out the door. The lobster was tough, probably overcooked, such a shame. The other 2 remained, 1 steak was fine, the other perhaps 200 gms was well overcooked. No salad dressing. We will not recommend and will not return. Initially with drinks we asked for a lemonade and received mineral water which we kept, all good, then waited another 15mins for a lemonade. Then when our son went to pay he was sent back into the bar to pay there?? Overall it was a dismal performance. Dr Judith Oliver

Hi Judith, Thank you for your feedback. Our restaurant was booked out that night with people celebrating Fathers Day early so we apologise for the unusual wait time. Entrees however do push out all the main meals as we time them to come out together. We generally request that people attending the Town Hall performances to let us know so we can fast track meals. With the focus on Fathers Day I dont believe the staff were aware of the performance as they usually will ask on meal placement. We also offer a Town Hall Special (displayed on entry) which, when ordered in the system highlights that the order needs to be moved forward in the queue. Steaks generally take longer than most of our meals so we generally dont advise ordering them if you are on a time limit.
