Sammie’s is a little taste of old Italy in downtown Austin. It celebrates the great ‘red sauce’ institution—inspired by old school, legendary Italian-American restaurants. The menu offers classic dishes in a casual but sophisticated, retro-designed space that is both lively and comfortable, capturing the essence of a night out at your favorite neighborhood joint. The space consists of a central dining room overlooking Shoal Creek and 6th Street, polished wood bar, Mildred’s Room (a private dining/wine room), and wraparound patio dining area. Please note that patio seating is weather contingent.

The menu offers riffs on standards including Housemade Mozzarella Sticks, Clams Casino, and Caesar Salad a la Tommy; timeless pastas like Spaghetti with Meatballs, and Linguine Vongole; and Sammie’s Classics: big portions of iconic plates like Chicken and Eggplant Parmigiana, Veal Marsala, and Baked Manicotti.

The food and service were outstanding. However, the noise level was so high, we could hardly even visit across our 4 person booth. The volume of the music did not help at all. It was also quite loud.

I'm sorry to have to write this review. I really wanted to love it. We are from Chicago and Italian is our favorite cuisine. Unfortunately, Sammies did disappoint. Beginning with the bread basket..the olive bread is soaking in oil, does not come to the table warm and the bread sticks are store bought out of the box. My husband had the lasagna which is a very large portion but again, a disappointment in terms of taste. The Caesar Salad was dripping in dressing and was very spicy. In my husband's words "That's got a kick to it". My daughter had the Rigatoni with Vodka sauce and it was also swimming in sauce. This just isn't the Italian experience that we are used to. The kicker is the price tag...over $225 for 3 pasta dishes, a salad and 3 glasses of wine is not at all worth the price tag. On top of that the restaurant is small but everyone is packed in like sardines. And the valet is $12 additional. Had the food been exceptional, I would not take issue with the price tag or the cost of the valet.

Excellent all around. From hostess to waiter to manager. Food was outstanding. What a gem in Austin. We will be back.

We had a sweet little time celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday at Sammie’s! Walked into a really cozy environment, kind of hard to believe this is in Austin, felt like we were back in New York City. Very tasteful & welcoming interior, with plenty of warm greetings from the staff. I thought it was really cool to see all the chefs in the back of the house lock-in with all the orders being requested, they looked solid. Got sat down & had Grace as our server & she took very good care of us. Poured the sparking water & handled the scheduling of our food in a very professional manner. She eventually got cut & we closed out our night with another awesome server, Shea. They were a really good team & that’s something really positive that we like at Sammie’s, is that, everyone that works there together really seem to have everyone’s back. Very sweet & friendly Texan energy. The food was very, very good; my girlfriend was so in love with the Calamari. We’ll have to go there again because it was such a sweet romantic night & the service was superb! Thank y’all for everything! Even the “Happy Birthday” note at our table! Until next time!

This was our first visit to Sammie’s and it doesn’t disappoint. Great food, excellent service. We know now why it’s so hard to get a reservation. Highly recommended.

Another great experience at the Sammie’s Jazz Lunch. The band was great, as always. Great service and a fun atmosphere. Delicious and satisfying food and a very interesting wine list with some unusual and excellent Italian varietals.
