Salt & Meadow is a dining experience that unites and balances the bounty of the Chesapeake Bay estuary with the farms of Virginia’s Northern Neck. The waterways here enjoy an abundance of seafood, and a vast array of herbs, vegetables and fruit thrive year-round in the region’s rich soil.
Leading the kitchen is Chef de Cuisine Kyle Perkins, who brings a wealth of experience to the shores of Irvington, has forged partnerships with local farms, purveyors to reduce the industry’s carbon footprint on a local level, demonstrating a commitment to environmental stewardship.

This is first time back to Tides Inn since the dining/bar area has been re-done and a new chef in place. The new decor is beautiful. Updated, but keeping with the style of the place. Couldn't be better! The re-location of the bar is much better and the wood paneling all around it makes it look like it came out of a swanky men's club. The new menu is super interesting and very well done. The oysters on the half shell come two ways. The "japanese-ish" style, with crunchy seaweed and mignonette gel was really unusual and gave the oyster dish a more interest than just plain oysters. The grilled octopus was done in an interesting way aslo and was very tender. A rarity in the Northern Neck area is a really good wine list which this restaurant now has. Fair mark-up...about 2.5 times on our Bussola Valpoliecella Reposso 2017. My tenderloin was not tender at all, unfortunately. That can happen. But, it came with a tasty reduction type sauce and a generous serving of crab meat on the side of the steak. My peanut pie was not a pie at all but, more of a crustless mousse. It was delicious. Service from CiCi is charming as ever. The runners from the kitchen could use some training. One young man arrived at our table, both his hands occupied with dishes of our main course. He just stood there, waiting for us to clear our places of our previous course ourselves to make room? And put them where? Also, someone needs to check the cutlery as each course is served to avoid having to try to track down someone to get a seafood fork or a steak knife, etc. This was required 3 times. All in all, a good experience. Food was good overall, too.

We enjoyed an excellent dinner at Salt & Meadow on September 15. The view of the water and the newly refurbished dining room and adjoining patio are lovely, the service was professional, cordial and efficient, and the food was delicious - crab cake with an unusual and delectable yogurt sauce, salad with fresh, surprisingly flavorful and crisp greens and beans from the Tides Inn’s own garden, superb local rockfish, and perfectly cooked halibut.

Our party of 4 for a birthday celebration was a disappointment. The service was poor. We waited for our drinks to arrive for over 15 minutes. Getting a second round took even longer. The food was overpriced and nothing spectacular for the price. The wine list was limited and extremely expensive. The sauce on the halibut was tasteless, thick and did nothing to enhance the well prepared fish. On the plus side, the fried oysters and the salads were good.

The view of Carter's Creek is fantastic from this restaurant. The food is okay, not great. The shrimp etouffee had a lot of broth and no cream like typical etouffee. The purple rice in the dish was different but tasty. The flank steak was ordered medium rare and came to the table lukewarm and medium well. The restaurant wasn't busy for a Sunday afternoon, so the service was very good and attentive.

Food was excellent, hot, and as ordered. Kitchen was a little slow, but server, Rose, did a good job with drinks, bread to ease the wait.

Loved the atmosphere and great service from CC the waiter. Oysters were very small but tasty. I had the catch of the Bay (Grouper) and it was delicious. My wife had the fillet and it was good but overcooked. If I had one suggestion it would be to offer more seafood options. I would have LOVED a seafood platter. Overall a nice experience.

Salt and Meadow is one of the most beautifully sited restaurants we've experienced. The view of Carter Creek and environs is simply gorgeous, especially as the sun sets. We enjoyed a delicious meal -- perfectly prepared halibut and a flavorful agnolotti. The rum cake dessert was underwhelming but the buttery rolls and lovely salads were very good. Wine list is extensive. Service was excellent. Ruth was a delight, personable and responsive. The Tides Inn is a pricey resort and their featured restaurant follows suit. For us it was a special treat and we loved every minute.

The food was fantastic, but the service was horrible. The waitress clearly did not want to be at work. We had to ask three people to send her over so we could order drinks on multiple occasions. We had to get up and get our own salt and pepper. We had to ask for streak knives. When it came time for dessert, we were told the kitchen was closed and we could not have dessert. After all that, the waitress had the nerve to bring the check with 20% gratuity automatically added. I adjusted it manually. I waited tables for many years. I hope I never made my patrons the way I felt today.
