Sakura was established in 2009 as the first Japanese restaurant in Portsmouth. Since our opening night we have always strived to bring the taste of true Japanese cuisine to our customers, while adding friendly service, knowledge and a lot of enthusiasm for what we do.

We have retained a lot of the features that made our restaurant popular in the Southsea area. These includes tasty food that comes in a great variety, and fast and reliable service. We strive to maintain our standards whilst constantly refining ourselves to meet the demands of every customer.

As soon as we sat down we felt very pressured to leave ! Asking what we wanted before we had taken our coats off and constantly pushing us to finish the food and move into the next course . Really ruined the evening for us .

Sakura is our favourite restaurant in Portsmouth never had a bad meal here everything is so fresh and quick. Volcano roll is the best sushi I’ve ever had and chia siew such reasonable prices and always busy as the food is so good! Never change top service and food always

Always a warm welcome by the staff at Sakura, and service is quick and uncompromised. Staff offer to take orders for drinks as you’re sat down, but will give you time to decide if you’re unsure as to what you want. Drinks are brought out swiftly, and after the food order has been taken, the food is very quick to arrive, and always of a great standard. It’s always tasty, always nice and hot, and the sushi is presented beautifully. A follow up to ask how your meal is, is always accompanied with a big smile and a question if more drinks are required. I’ve been to Sakura several times over the years, and there’s never a problem with the quality of their food. Highly recommended if you’re ever in the mood for some authentic Japanese cuisine, and their set meal options are a great way to get a taste of most of the things they can provide for you. Well priced, great atmosphere, the staff are genuinely lovely.

We had a fantastic lunch at Sakura, it was totally delicious. 😋 I’m going to come again for sure. The food is fresh, and the photos on the menu do it a disservice. When the food arrived it looked gorgeous! And tasted even better. Had a great time as a family with 2 teenagers who also loved the experience. What I also liked was the Maitre D made excellent recommendations of their specials and sake so we tried new things. Really recommend!! Thank you 🙏

Overall, the food maintains a good standard, but this time there were a few fish bones in the salmon. I hope you can handle this with more care.

Amazing food as always but let down by some mismanagement at the beginning. We called ahead about an hour and a half earlier to ask if we could have a table for 3 instead of the original 2 and we were told this was fine. However, when we arrived it was clear they had forgotten to alter our booking and had no room for us. They then left us standing at the front of the very small restaurant for 10 minutes before moving us to what we thought was our table. We then began to order our food and were told ‘your table is this way’ as we were apparently taking up another groups table. There was no clear communication and they could do with being more on top of this as it does ruin the experience somewhat. We were on the verge of leaving we felt it was that bad, glad we stayed as we loved the food but it is clear they sometimes clearly overbook themselves as there were several people waiting in the cramped restaurant. I they need to either restructure the booking system or ensure diners are done for when the next cover arrives, not 25 minutes after.

Second time to here now. By choice of our children, you have overtaken mcdonalds and harvester for them. The staff are always so nice and helpful and friendly, and the food is amazing. Love the little booths, it makes it a personal experience. Whole heartedly recomeend. The tempura ice cream is a must also.
