The menu follows a Southern-fried meat-and-three concept, meaning diners order a meat, plus three sides. Those will include Ruthie’s mac and cheese, of course, but also white-soy-braised greens, stewed chickpeas and smoked cauliflower with a spicy soy glaze. “We’re going to be changing it a lot based on seasonality,” Hill says of the menu. “ Every vegetable has got to be fantastic because it has to stand on its own.” One thing that will help that: Hill is already growing all of the restaurant’s own herbs at his South Arlington community garden plot.

The Branzino was perfection. The buttermilk biscuits and strawberry jam and arugula fennel salad equally mouth watering. I enjoyed a cucumber mint mocktail that was delicious too. My husband savored the duck, one of his favorites. Incredible taste, reasonably priced and our waiter Ohla was superb!! Ruthie’s All Day will be a regular on our dining experience now that we’ve discovered it.

Delicious food well prepared. Perfectly grilled fish and steak as well as bbq. Excellent sides. Food is consistently delicious. Daily specials. Nice outdoor dining with heaters. Responsive staff. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing brunch. The biscuits and gravy and brisket bennie were delicious and we highly recommend them. We will definitely go back soon!

The brisket hash was a wonderful blend! The brisket had just the right pepperiness! The apple doughnuts were an incredible surprise! The accompanying raspberry sauce was just right and not too sweet. The big breakfast was just right for a big guy. I’m definitely going to put this into the brunch rotation!

Food quality is always on point. Apple pancakes are the best and only pancakes I eat anywhere because I’m not a sweets person. They are fluffy and the apple compote is not overly sugary and full of comforting flavors. The omelette was cooked billowy a la French style and came with a freshly dressed arugula salad. Brisket bennie was moist and eggs perfectly poached. Some may say the food is “bland” but I personally prefer food under-salted because then I can add as needed.

Ruthie’s is consistently good. We had the apple pancakes and several bowls, all were tasty and timed perfectly. My only note is that the restaurant is packed with support staff - bussers, prep chefs, etc, and sometimes the restaurant itself felt a bit claustrophobic.

We chose this restaurant because we had a tour of the Pentagon earlier in the day, and this restaurant is very close to that location. We arrived about 30 minutes early, but that wasn't a problem, they sat us right away. The food was really good at Ruthie's but what -also - really stood out was the service. Everyone in our party commented on it! They were very busy (it was a Friday afternoon of a holiday weekend) but you never would have known it with the absolutely amazing service we received. Drinks were constantly refreshed, questions asked, check-ins were routine. It was one of the best dining experiences we had in Northern Virginia.
