The menu follows a Southern-fried meat-and-three concept, meaning diners order a meat, plus three sides. Those will include Ruthie’s mac and cheese, of course, but also white-soy-braised greens, stewed chickpeas and smoked cauliflower with a spicy soy glaze. “We’re going to be changing it a lot based on seasonality,” Hill says of the menu. “ Every vegetable has got to be fantastic because it has to stand on its own.” One thing that will help that: Hill is already growing all of the restaurant’s own herbs at his South Arlington community garden plot.

Great staff - cordial and highly competent. Excellent food, and butterscotch pudding is divine. Patio means minimal noise (inside has high volume).

Enjoyed everything about it. The food came out extremely fast. Our waiter did a really good job taking care of us. Will definitely come back.

Ate at Ruthie's for the first time for lunch today. Very nice ambiance...the restaurant is open, light, with lots of windows space which gives a bright & spacious feel. Our server who is from the Ukraine was very friendly and professional. We had the smoked brisket which was very good. The macaroni & cheese was stellar. The handcut french fries were excellent. The coleslaw was so-so. My only dislike was the baked beans with pulled pork. They were bland & flavorless. Other than the beans, it was a great lunch and we will definitely eat at Ruthie's again!

Neighborhood gem. Really good food - Southern style cooking - at very reasonable prices. Ruthie's is very popular - especially on weekends - so reservations are strongly recommended.
