Our Story The goal – to guarantee a wonderful meal with authentic cuisine and fabulous margaritas, serve over 50 artisanal and ancestral mezcals, and over 100 different types of tequila brands in a vibrant unique atmosphere that boasts excellent service. Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine opened in Astoria in 2021 with such a wonderful and successful home run that a second location opened in Patchogue in March 2022. Ruta Oaxaca means “Road to Oaxaca,” a historic state in the southern part of Mexico. Mr. Castillo and his Partners are keenly focused on honoring Oaxacan culinary traditions, whose fame is derived in great part from its many varieties of moles. By legend, these ancient recipes are more than sauces, they are the very focus of the meal. Ruta Oaxaca proudly features four moles, each prepared using the Oaxacan mole recipes that have made the cuisine world famous. The food was very good the waiter was attentive but the waiter charged us for 2 side dishes that were not ordered and I didn’t notice until we paid the check. Also our appetizer never made it. Hopefully it was an off day.

No one at our table could eat the food due to house spicy the dishes were. There was no mention of spice in the menu. The music was so loud we couldn’t hear each other . And the prices? Let’s just say it’s a crime to charge that much for a tiny bit of guacamole

We decided to try Ruta and our experience was not great, ordered a Margarita and it was served in a highball glass, not appealing, tasted good, but lacked that feel you want when you have a Margarita, then they brought chips and what they called salsa, it was mashed up with beans, and we all did not like it asked for regular salsa, they did not have it. Our appetizers show up and everyone was complaining it was too spicy, same with the meal. Needless to say we will not be returning here for Mexican food.

It was our first time and the food was delicious and the service was good. We will definitely eat at Ruta Oaxaca again.

I have visited the restaurant a few times before and really enjoyed it. Last night friends joined us and it did not disappoint. The service was excellent. The staff is so pleasant and accommodating. And the food was delicious. Always a great experience.
