Our Story
The goal – to guarantee a wonderful meal with authentic cuisine and fabulous margaritas, serve over 50 artisanal and ancestral mezcals, and over 100 different types of tequila brands in a vibrant unique atmosphere that boasts excellent service. Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine opened in Astoria in 2021 with such a wonderful and successful home run that a second location opened in Patchogue in March 2022.

Ruta Oaxaca means “Road to Oaxaca,” a historic state in the southern part of Mexico. Mr. Castillo and his Partners are keenly focused on honoring Oaxacan culinary traditions, whose fame is derived in great part from its many varieties of moles. By legend, these ancient recipes are more than sauces, they are the very focus of the meal. Ruta Oaxaca proudly features four moles, each prepared using the Oaxacan mole recipes that have made the cuisine world famous.

We dine at Ruta about every couple of weeks and have never been disappointed. It can get a bit loud at times but the outside dining is a an alternative. The service and food are very good.

The back patio was so beautiful! Guacamole was honestly amazing and I could eat 5 bowls of it. The only thing im mad at is that I live nearby and only finally just went.

Our second time here and the food was delicious. It was not very busy for a Friday night so our food came out quickly and piping hot which was amazing. Everything taste freshly made and not overly seasoned. Drinks were delicious. Our server was very nice and attentive. The manager was making rounds at the tables and chatting. I’m a vegetarian and there’s more than just one choice which is always appreciated. My husband eats anything and he said his taco trio (choose your own combo) were all delicious. Definitely one of the best restaurants around.

Great food- pork tacos are sublime! Great margarita! Fine service! We sat out back in the lovely garden, but if it were raining or cold, I’d have to leave. The restaurant is super noisy. There would be no place away from the racket.

Our entire experience was absolutely phenomenal. The service was prompt and courteous, the food was out of this world, and the value/pricing was just right! A very affordable, delectable, and elegant experience that will absolutley have me coming back again and again!
