Our Story
The goal – to guarantee a wonderful meal with authentic cuisine and fabulous margaritas, serve over 50 artisanal and ancestral mezcals, and over 100 different types of tequila brands in a vibrant unique atmosphere that boasts excellent service. Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine opened in Astoria in 2021 with such a wonderful and successful home run that a second location opened in Patchogue in March 2022.

Ruta Oaxaca means “Road to Oaxaca,” a historic state in the southern part of Mexico. Mr. Castillo and his Partners are keenly focused on honoring Oaxacan culinary traditions, whose fame is derived in great part from its many varieties of moles. By legend, these ancient recipes are more than sauces, they are the very focus of the meal. Ruta Oaxaca proudly features four moles, each prepared using the Oaxacan mole recipes that have made the cuisine world famous.

Food was so good. Was a little loud bc tables were so close but I would definitely go back. Everyone was very satisfied with everything we ordered

I wanted to love this place as I’ve read so many great reviews. The service was good but the food left me wanting something more. It was beautifully presented but everything needed salt. It was just too bland. The quality is there. They have 1/2 price margs 12-4 Sat/Sun

It was our first time here and we really enjoyed it. The pitcher of white sangria was delicious and a good value. We loved all the tacos, and service was great! We will go back!

Food was absolutely wonderful. Got the special (seafood enchilada smothered in a spicy creme topped with calamari), birra tacos with mexican corn on the side. WOW. Everything was amazing. Appetizer was guacamole with house chips and salsa. Drinks were also amazing. I got a “no mames” flight margarita with dragon fruit, tamarind, mango and passion fruit. I will for sure be revisiting very soon.

As always a perfect evening at Ruta. We chose to sit in their charming backyard garden, despite the slight chill in the air. Our server was knowledgeable and seemed to appear whenever we needed her. Food was delicious as always. We loved the freshly made chunky Guacamole as our starter, Grilled Pulpo Entree and my Pastor Quesadilla. The owner Jose is always welcoming and made sure to stop by our table a couple of times to make sure we had everything we needed and that we were happy. Ruta remains one of our top favorites in Patchogue. We will be back soon!

We dine at Ruta about every couple of weeks and have never been disappointed. It can get a bit loud at times but the outside dining is a an alternative. The service and food are very good.
