4 of us all had the sunday lunch special I.e. meal and drink for £18. Unfortunately they had run out of chicken. 3 of us picked beef. It was more rare than medium which didn't suit 1 of our party. However the rest of the meal was really tasty and a big plateful. We received a free dessert and some money off. The lads we saw were extremely busy and did a very good job. Would definitely use the royal oak again. This was our 3rd year using this pub and we will continue too.

We have been coming to York for short stays for a few years now. After visiting this pub for a Sunday lunch I can only strongly recommend you go there yourselves and try the best Sunday dinner we've had in York. The choices that you can choose from are brilliant from a variation of meats to the vast amount of vegetables to get. Its truly a traditional Sunday lunch. The staff we're excellent and couldn't do enough so thank you for an amazing meal on our last day before we go home.

Delicious pie and mash- very quick service. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. We've had two meals here this week and they've both been perfectm

Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff. Food was good and served extremely quickly.. Good value too. Easy to book online . Would definitely recommend.

The staff are very rushed and I felt like we were an annoyance to them. Food was good - but they could do better on service

As soon as we walked in we were looked after.. food was lovely and all the staff where helpful .. chatty.. cheerful and we will definitely be returning on our next visit to York 😀

We arrived for dinner at around 17:30 and shown to our table at this time there was no mention of changes to the menu We then was asked what we wanted then to find out that they did not have any of the food items left that we requested and this was very early in the evening. if this was indicated to us when we arrived we could have gone somewhere else. We booked this venue by guidance of the ratings so we thought it would have been good the roast meat were very tough and the table was to small for how many people there were.

Booked a table for Sunday roast following a recommendation on the Internet. Needed a restaurant that took dogs. We all agreed the food was great. My son really liked the roast with belly pork, chicken and beef. The portions were definitely ample. The parsnips were exceptional - My husband said they were better than his! I was slightly concerned about being upstairs in the parlour, but I shouldn’t have worried. The atmosphere upstairs was lovely. Everyone made our dog very welcome. The Restaurant also accommodated my mother who eats very little by allowing her to have a child’s portion - That was also ample! Would definitely recommend.
