Located in the historic Fulton Market district of Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, Rose Mary is Chef/Owner Joe Flamm’s debut restaurant inspired by his Italian heritage and the bold, bright flavors of Croatian cuisine. The boisterous space—named for Flamm’s grandmothers, Mary and Mary Rose, and the herb rosemary, which grows natively along the Italian and Croatian coastlines—offers a seasonal menu of rustic yet refined dishes that encapsulate what Flamm has coined “Adriatic drinking food”.

All the food was delicious but what was really exceptional was the service...the host, our waiter, the servers and busboys were all pleasant, knowledgeable and efficient. We received clean plates throughout our meal, every dish was explained when it was served and we always received serving utensils with each dish.

Aside from the tuna crudo which was very good, everything else was too heavy, fatty and lacking nuance. We had ten different dishes and really liked only the crudo. The lamb ragu malfedine was decent but also too heavy. All the other dishes were just not good and definitely not worth the hype. And pretty expensive for poor value.

We shared the fried zucchini, the squid-ink risotto, the branzino, and several other items that I can't remember, but all were superb. Excellent (but pricey) wines by the glass.

Food was great and our server was delightful. It was a bit loud and hard to hear my dinner companions but overall, I'll be back. Wish they hadn't taken the green tortellini with truffle from when they opened off the menu.

We are huge top chef fans and Joe did not disappoint with his restaurant. Gnocchi was light and pillowy, with a sauce that melted in your mouth. Cevapi and the house Amaro tasted like our trip to Croatia last year. Service was excellent. Dirty dishes were cleaned right away and water was poured before it was even 1/2 gone.

Overall, our dining experience at Rose Mary was really good. We went with the server's recommendations and ordered a variety of dishes for our group of four. The server was excellent in guiding us through her favorites on the menu. The standout dish for me was definitely the ribs—they were some of the best I've had in a long time. However, the only downside was that the service felt a bit rushed. Once we placed our order, the food arrived within 5 minutes, and this quick pace continued for the other courses as well. It would have been more enjoyable if it didn't feel so hurried, especially since we had a late reservation and there was no rush to turn over our table. Despite this minor issue, the food quality and the server's recommendations made our visit to Rose Mary quite enjoyable.
