Located in the historic Fulton Market district of Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, Rose Mary is Chef/Owner Joe Flamm’s debut restaurant inspired by his Italian heritage and the bold, bright flavors of Croatian cuisine. The boisterous space—named for Flamm’s grandmothers, Mary and Mary Rose, and the herb rosemary, which grows natively along the Italian and Croatian coastlines—offers a seasonal menu of rustic yet refined dishes that encapsulate what Flamm has coined “Adriatic drinking food”.

Love, love, love rose mary! New fall menu is spectacular! Highly recommend the capellacci di zucca - butternut squash pasta is a go to when the calendar flips to October. Also recommend the duck in plum sauce. I'm not usually a "duckie" person but this was perfectly prepared and simple with a super flavorful plum jus and side of grilled endive. Yummy! Can't wait to dine again!

We had a reservation but were running 10 minutes late due to traffic, which we notified the restaurant of. We ended up waiting an additional 20 minutes before being seated, which seemed a bit chaotic for a reservation on a Tuesday. Not the end of the world, but they could have bought some love with updates, a simple “sorry for the delay” or a complimentary drink at the bar. Food was very good and our waiter was excellent. The branzino was beautifully cooked and their pastas are all excellent. One of our party has a no gluten preference and the waiter staged our appetizers in pairs with at least one non gluten one. They ask for all food orders to be placed at the same time and let us know that food service, including mains would be staggered, “sharing plates style”. The waiter kindly arranged for a gluten free main and gluten (pasta) main to be served in pairs also. The staggered main plates were fine for this dinner and we had a wonderful time but their mains are not really sharing plates and I can see this making the experience less enjoyable on a future visit. We will likely return for the food quality and atmosphere but with consideration for potential seating delays and the staggered mains delivery.
