Root & Bone draws its name from the staples of the American diet: meat and vegetables. It promises to deliver culinary excellence with southern charm.
Rooted and raised in the South, Chef Jeff McInnis grew up with southern comfort food and hospitality in his blood. His partner, Chef Janine Booth, hailing from Australia, brings with her a true passion for uniting people through food. This power couple already boasts several successful restaurants across the country and the Caribbean, with numerous accolades including three James Beard Award nominations. They are thrilled to be opening their fourth Root & Bone here in WNC. Root & Bone will showcase their southern-inspired cuisine with a modern twist, featuring award-winning dishes such as the Sweet Tea Brined Fried Chicken, Braised Brisket Meatloaf, Grilled Peach & Tomato Caprese Salad, and Barbecue Spareribs, alongside classic casual items like the R&B Burger, Crispy Fried Chicken Biscuits

The seating process was clumsy and table setup inappropriate, forcing us to almost crawl over adjacent diners. Our waiter fortunately relocated us. The much-touted short rib meatloaf was overdone, dry and almost like a hockey puck, and it was lukewarm. No flavor to the fried chicken. The banana pudding custard was split/curdled. Every restaurant has an off night but the failures here were on multiple levels. Too expensive and very little value. I am sorry for the hard working wait staff, but we will not return.

Fourth time at R&B. Food and service continues top notch. Drink menu is really interesting, especially the "Mountain Mermaid" served in one of the most unique containers we've seen. The trout dip, short ribs, wedge salad and brownie skillet are our favorites. High level of ambient noise continues to be an issue for anyone with hearing challenges. So we ate outside which was quiet and pleasant. R&B might keep some insect repellent on hand for patio diners.

Root and bone is nice but a little disappointing . Menu is ho-hum for the name of the restaurant Food served was good but the menu is very basic. Not at all what I expected with the name of the restaurant I expected “Bone in Steaks and chops “ and interesting root veggies. What I got was plain fish. Hamburgers and stew.

A great new restaurant. Offers wonderful foods with unique flavors. Great Bar and Wine list. This was our second visit and we will definately be returning!

For appetizers we had the sourdough biscuits and the caprese salad which were delicious. Dinner was good.

Great food, there was so much to try on our first time we ordered way too much. We left with a huge bag of leftovers. We started with angel biscuits, delicious and fluffy. Then fried green tomatoes and burrata salad. Then we had fried chicken and the ribs. They too were perfect. We ended with banana pudding creme brulee. Mermaid cocktail and wine accompanied our meal. Great patio and our waiter Benj was very thoughtful in giving us space between our dishes.

The atmosphere, food and service were excellent. We immediately loved the restaurant and our server, Maggie, was wonderful. We feel like Root & Bone will become our go to place.

Our second time here and it was as good as the first. The service (Chelsea) and the food were great. We love that the two seating areas are so different. It' a bit like having two restaurants in one. Only point to make that isn't really a negative, but they were out of the entree we were going to order and it was only 7:15. I assume they continue to learn what really sells so will work to avoid that in the future.
