Root & Bone draws its name from the staples of the American diet: meat and vegetables. It promises to deliver culinary excellence with southern charm.
Rooted and raised in the South, Chef Jeff McInnis grew up with southern comfort food and hospitality in his blood. His partner, Chef Janine Booth, hailing from Australia, brings with her a true passion for uniting people through food. This power couple already boasts several successful restaurants across the country and the Caribbean, with numerous accolades including three James Beard Award nominations. They are thrilled to be opening their fourth Root & Bone here in WNC. Root & Bone will showcase their southern-inspired cuisine with a modern twist, featuring award-winning dishes such as the Sweet Tea Brined Fried Chicken, Braised Brisket Meatloaf, Grilled Peach & Tomato Caprese Salad, and Barbecue Spareribs, alongside classic casual items like the R&B Burger, Crispy Fried Chicken Biscuits

Root & Bone was outstanding. Everything about it was fantastic! It is a welcome addition to dining in the WNC area. Can’t wait to go back!

It was our first time at this relatively new restaurant. We dined early around 5pm and the place was already pretty busy - always a good sign. Our server (Anthony) was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. The food ranged from amazingly good (biscuits, trout, bibb salad and peach salad) to good but room to improve more (fried chicken needed seasoning with something - it was moist and tender but flavor profile was boring). They have a nice wine list. Our biggest request to the owners is to figure out how to dampen the noise. Stone and concrete walls/floor with a bar in the middle of the dining room equals way too loud to comfortably talk.

The food was better than average. The overhead music was way too loud. Took too long to get our cocktails. Appetizers came way before we got our cocktails. Best coleslaw I have ever had. Service was good other than delayed cocktails. Very reasonably priced.

We are so happy to have this place so close. Our little town has certainly been missing the wonderful dishes and service this place has to offer. We are already planning another visit to this gem!

Trout was a very small portion for the price. Passed for a Tapas. 4-5oz portion at best. Burger was awesome and recommended. Service was excellent. All food was good but don't get the trout$$$$.

My wife and I had our first dinner at R&B tonight, and it was fabulous! The beet tartare was really tasty, as was the Southern caprese with peaches and pimento cheese. I had the trout, and wife had the meatloaf; trout was served with carrots and crab risotto, meatloaf with asparagus and mashed potatoes. Both dishes were excellent. Topped this off with a shared banana pudding creme brulee (YUM!), and took home a fabulous celvet chocolate chip cookee. J. Miller (manager) went out of his way to make us feel welcome, and even scheduled our next reservation for us. Our waiter, Justin L., was not intrusive but there when he needed to be, answering all our menu questions patienly! Highly recommend the house Gin and Tonic; unique twist on a classic. Lastly, Justin found and returned my misplaced wallet immediately. We'll be back soon!

We enjoyed our first visit to Root & Bone. The food was very creative. Everyone was very welcoming, and our server, Anthony, was excellent. Prices were reasonable. We look forward to returning and trying more dishes.

It’s kind of hard to tell what theme they’re going with in there. It’s all over the place. Drink menu was simple and diverse. Typical cocktails. Our drinks were good. With Three bartenders behind the bar, it took quite sometime for a comeback and settle up. At the table our server was wonderful and very accommodating. Our appetizer was wonderful. Our entrees on the other hand were not. Their take on meatloaf was odd. Shredded beef pressed into square patties. Can’t cut it with your fork nor the butter knife they supply. It’s weird. Not meatloaf. Also the food came out not hot in anyway. The server mentioned our steak was coming off the grill momentarily and will be out soon. My guess is they plated the meatloaf and waited on the steak. So now to the steak. We ordered their flame charred ribeye medium. It came out not and mostly charred on the outside but completely raw and cold in the center. Poor execution from the kitchen. I have to say, the food tasted ok and we didn’t wait long for it. I will give them one more chance since they’re new. Also keep your kitchen tight. Watching I don’t know who going back and eating handfuls of fries off the line and cooks chilling on their phones. If you got time to lean, you have time to clean. Keep your hands out of the fries!
