Sorry to say that it wasn’t as good an experience as it had been in the past. We went to celebrate a birthday and overall it was pretty disappointing. The service started off well with the staff being attentive and friendly, but gradually went downhill. We received the bread, drinks and then starters for adults and main meals for children quite quickly (although the portions were small). However, the adult’s main meals took over an hour and half to arrive. No one explained the reason it was taking so long (we didn’t order anything special). We had a suspicion that the larger party of people nearby had taken priority, as they had received their main course and even their dessert ahead of us getting our main. Food tasted good when it did arrive, although the beef fillet was a bit overdone. Our children had to sit very patiently the whole time for our mains to arrive (as they had already eaten theirs during our starter). No mention of the fact that the table had been booked to celebrate a birthday. We ended up leaving after eating our mains, over two hours since we arrived. If we had been served more promptly then we would have ordered desserts and coffees, as we have done on previous visits. When we complained some money was taken off the bill for the four drinks we ordered while we were waiting, which was appreciated (although we wouldn’t really have needed those if the food had arrived before then!). Overall, bearing in mind that we didn’t have desserts or coffees and no starters for the children, I’d say that it was expensive for a disappointing experience. Sadly I don’t think we’ll be making the trip down to Rocksalt again in a hurry.

Despite having booked well in advance, staff tried to shoehorn the three of us onto the most unpleasant table in the restaurant. When I asked to sit elsewhere I was told that other tables had been specifically requested…which was clearly rubbish as those tables were then largely taken by people with no reservation. My mum who was with us is 90 so we needed somewhere comfortable. My mum’s starter arrived with no dressing and main courses took an age to arrive. Plus at least three of the dishes we had bore no resemblance to the menu description. We lost the will to live waiting to pay! I should add that it was a Monday late lunchtime and the place was half empty so no excuse. We’d eaten previously upstairs which was excellent. Could be lovely but lacks an experienced manager.

Rocksalt is my favourite restaurant in Kent but yesterday was not good. They had been very busy but our bread never turned up, the mussels had no sauce, the wrong fries turned up and were cold. The toilet was a disgrace. Dirty hand towels left in a huge pile, the toilet hadn't been checked since the morning. We had 5 different people ask us if our meal was OK & we kept having to repeat the same thing. The outcome was OK, our meal was discounted considerably but as I look forward to going so much it was a big disappointment. I will go back but the restaurant need to have a review of the numbers they can cope with.

The staff were all brilliant, the food was exceptional and a lovely touch from the team at Rocksalt in giving us a special anniversary dessert. Never had an average meal in Rocksalt, every time it's been great.

A long time favorite. Happy that my 85 year old mum came along. She found the noise level/music a bit much, on this particular busy sunny Sunday. Staff so helpful in moving us to an outside table - even gave us a blanket. The food, staff, and setting are really excellent. Thank you again Rocksalt!

Starters from the ala carte were very good. Service was slow. We sat down at 1430, entree served about 1530 and mains at 1640; and when main courses arrived they were barely warm. The beef was tough as was the belly pork. Given the cost, one would expect better. Ambience and setting very good, the service was slow but the staff are very good, well trained and presented and super polite!

We had a very enjoyable lunch. The restaurant was fairly busy and we had to wait for our desserts.

Food was great. We started with plain oysters and then had a swordfish and dover sole. The staff were friendly and attentive. The reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is that the main was a bit slow to arrive.

It should have been the diamond closing night on our two weeks holidays. We over-expected though. The food was really excellent, that we enjoyed. Our parents, 75 years of age, could not overcome the excess noise in the restaurant. Perhaps we were not the ideal guests for the staff, though after traveling along the south coast we had some opportunities to enjoy some other nice dining. Perhaps we got spoiled by the hospitality of Miguel Tenreiro, Rick Stein! Richard Massey, Alex Kimber. Being snobby, or expected to be treated as a “valued guest”. Food can be the best, though it is carried by the waiting staff. Example: several tables had to wait more then 10 minutes after asking for the bill to come and then even again more then five minutes before the guy was to go to pick up his pin machine …

Im a regular at Rocksalt and usually love it, but unfortunately this time was so disappointing. We had to ask a waiter to tell us the specials. We were a party with kids and it took over an hour for the children to eat - they were so hungry. I asked a waiter for two portions of bread for the kids- he came back with two slices of it. The food took way too long to come in general. Something went very wrong there this week. I hope it’s a one off.
