I have been coming to Rocksalt for many years. Typically Rocksalt has delivered a great view, great food and great service. Today the experience was only a great view. Rocksalt needs to up its game. Small portions = poor value; slow service - drinks left on the bar. We almost went to get them ourselves such was the slow service. Cold food served that had to be sent back ruining our experience. Rocksalt used to be so good. Today very poor indeed!

Despite the lack of sunshine, the floor to ceiling windows are the perfect back drop to the harbour. We declined a table in the window as it was very close to the occupied table next to us and instead chose a booth. This was equally as good as the window as you could see straight out into the harbour and the wall has mirrors on which reflect the view too so my husband could also see out. Great idea. Oh yes and now onto the food - top quality, ingredients taste so fresh and are beautifully presented. Perfect portion sizes and a good choice on the menu. I had the cod and my husband had the chicken and we both ate every morsel. Service very attentive and friendly. Relatively quiet but equally we counted 12 occupied tables which I'd say was pretty good on a gloomy Tuesday lunchtime. Faultless and we'll be going back again. Thank you Rocksalt.

Promptly welcomed and given a choice of table. We choose outside which was on a balcony over the sea at Folkstone. The menu was either fish or meat with half our table of 4 choosing either one or the other. We weren't offered bread which was a surprise. We skipped starters and went for mains, cod, lemon sole and two beef fillets. The portions were adequate. I ordered truffled potato mash but only got normal. The mains were nice, didn't blow us away. the beef fillets were ordered rare and medium rare and both came medium rare which annoyed my son who wanted blood! The deserts were excellent (sticky toffee pudding and lemon meringue. The overall experience was good, the serving staff attentive but the orders weren't taken down 100% and we were waiting a while to pay the bill. For the price point it was ok, not the best nor the worse I have experienced. Would I go back again, no I wouldn't be in a rush to return.
