Head Chef Charles Lee has worked in a number of Michelin starred restaurants during his career before arriving at ROBATA. Possessing a strong command of Asian cuisines from across the globe, Chef Lee has devised a menu which shows the diversity of the country’s food, highlighting traditional cooking techniques and contemporary flavours, along with using the best of British produce.

ROBATA meaning ‘fireside’ specialises in robata grilled charcoal cooking, a Japanese tradition that was first introduced by ancient fishermen who took boxes of hot coals with them on their boats to warm their food at they gathered their day’s catch. While the cooking method has largely stayed the same, the menu is a modern interpretation of some of Japan’s most prized dishes as well as a number of ROBATA signatures sure to please Western pal

Food is amazing as always, Full of flavour! Staff super great too, the last time I went they gave me a complimentary chicken karaage. recommend it 10/10🩷

The food was ok, tasty. Most of the portions are small, though. Ambient is not the best, tables were a bit sticky, and we made the booking as a group of 10, but we were separated and had to sit at two tables. Although it was possible to do some table moving and connect the team, when the request was made, it was said that it cannot be done. The service was good and food came out quick.

We booked this purely based on pictures and it did not disappoint. Food and service was excellent. I’d recommend just getting lots of smaller plates as they’re were divine.

Can't blame the restaurant for having some VERY loud diners when we went there for date night, so even though it was "energetic" that's no bad thing. Food was all really good, but my issue isn't with its quality and more with its quantity. We had the tasting menu, covering various types of sushi, fish, vegetables and meats, and it was all really tasty. However, there was far, far too much of it! Genuinely, if each course had been half the size we would've left feeling totally full to the brim. As it was, we lost count of the courses and tried to finish them all as they came out, but two thirds of the way through we were done. Four bits of sushi should've been two, eight bits of chicken should've been four, and so on - it meant that we were too full to properly enjoy it, and had to take loads of the final courses home to eat later as we were too stuffed. Also had to drink about three pints of water each when we got home - if you don't like salt then perhaps look elsewhere.
