Head Chef Charles Lee has worked in a number of Michelin starred restaurants during his career before arriving at ROBATA. Possessing a strong command of Asian cuisines from across the globe, Chef Lee has devised a menu which shows the diversity of the country’s food, highlighting traditional cooking techniques and contemporary flavours, along with using the best of British produce.

ROBATA meaning ‘fireside’ specialises in robata grilled charcoal cooking, a Japanese tradition that was first introduced by ancient fishermen who took boxes of hot coals with them on their boats to warm their food at they gathered their day’s catch. While the cooking method has largely stayed the same, the menu is a modern interpretation of some of Japan’s most prized dishes as well as a number of ROBATA signatures sure to please Western pal

The advertised offer isn’t right it’s 3 courses with Prosecco For £40 which is still a good deal. But we chose to eat from A La carte and the food was lovely

We booked the table from 8pm and we were early. We were eating and just ordered another bottle of wine which we were enjoying. 10 minutes later we were told we had to give up our table in 10 minutes. It was only 9.30pm and table was booked at 8pm. We had t even finished our wine which was nearly full. Manager said it’s ok I will take it away and remove from the bill. The manager was very rude to us, he had no people skills. The food and waitresses were great. We spent alot of money in the restaurant but would not go again or recommend it to anyone because the manager was rude

We arrived on time for our table and were asked to "come back in 3 mins", when we queried this they actually wanted us to leave and wait outside (not inside). The food was nice, can't argue with that. Although our large plate (the pork) was not good value when some starters (which were half the price) were larger portions and much better value. We were not there for too long, managed to have 1 drink and our food and when they came to take our plates, the staff said "do you want anything else as you have 20 minutes left". Had we wanted to have anything, we couldn't have anyway. So in summary, whilst the food was nice, it was not nice enough for the staff to be as blunt and rude as they were. I think they need to work on their customer experience and the way they communicate

Food and service were very good. Particularly the black cod dish. Only issue we had was a very noisy table next to us made it difficult for us to hear ourselves speak. Very irritating

Service was lacking. We’d been there for at least 20min and no one asked if we wanted a drink. We had to get their attention for ordering anything. Portions are small for the price you pay.
