Specialising in the long-standing tradition of Japanese charcoal cooking.

Head Chef Charles Lee has worked in a number of Michelin starred restaurants during his career before arriving at ROBATA. Possessing a strong command of Asian cuisines from across the globe, Chef Lee has devised a menu which shows the diversity of the country’s food, highlighting traditional cooking techniques and contemporary flavours, along with using the best of British produce.

ROBATA meaning ‘fireside’ specialises in robata grilled charcoal cooking, a Japanese tradition that was first introduced by ancient fishermen who took boxes of hot coals with them on their boats to warm their food at they gathered their day’s catch. While the cooking method has largely stayed the same, the menu is a modern interpretation of some of Japan’s most prized dishes as well as a number of ROBATA signatures sure to please Western pal

Generally always really good but the Gyozas weren’t hot this time around. Service is always pretty good.

Food was lovely and the price was fair for the more decadent ingredients like the black cod! It was a busy night and when the restaurant is full it's on the noisier side, but otherwise it was a great experience, would return.

Needs a freshen up - it feels tired in comparison to the competition in the area at the same price point. and lacking some ambience. Food was delicious. We ordered the tasting menu. Really loved the cod and the chicken. Really nice cocktails too. Do check the opening / closing times, as we were only told they were closing for a break at 3pm after our first course - we had booked in for 2pm. But they stretched to 3:30 for us which we appreciated. Waitresses were friendly and attentive.

Unfortunately table of 8 got split up into two tables of four - there's only one long table for a large group in the restaurant. Also be wary of closing times - closed at 3PM. Service was excellent!

Maybe my fault - but expecting really good quality from the reviews - just booked it online - it showed up to be a Japanese McDonald’s so to speak and not as delicious and good as I have tried on other Japanese restaurants - sorry but we where disappointed

The first was incredible, every dish had such amazing flavour. Great quality for and reasonably priced and the espresso martinis were on point! Would definitely recommend

Welcoming and friendly staff. Fast service. Lovely food. Sashimi and soft shell crab bao buns were our favourite. Sparkling Sake really good.
