The restaurant was extremely understaffed. They only had 1 bartender working. It took 30 min to get our drinks!

We loved our server, but I think there were only 2 for the whole restaurant, and the kitchen was a little slower than we'd expected, and one of our party was late and we waited for her to order. Our friends barely made their 7pm concert. Fortunately, our show didn't start until 730. The food was outstanding, as were our mocktails (the Farmer's Daughter and Coconut Butterfly) and cocktails, 2 Black Manhattans. 3 of our party ordered the 3-course pre-theater meal and the portions were a little large, but if we did it again they might share one, but the both the chicken and the salmon were delicious and beautiful. Because of the tight timing 2 of our party didn't have time to enjoy the gelato that came with their meal before they had to run, which was a little disappointing, but meant that I got to have chocolate gelato, and it was lovely and a perfect portion. The odd one out, I ordered the Boursin dates with bacon to share - yum! - and the fried chicken appetizer, which was more than enough for an entreé, especially when my friends shared their excellently roasted Brussel sprouts with me. We love Roanoke. It's location is perfect for dinner before a show, and the area is still busy after the show, so parking nearby is easy, too.

We were celebrating our anniversary and overall bummed out by the service, but the food was pretty good. We arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation and were seated immediately, which was wonderful! We ordered the Fava Bean Hummus and Landmark Old Fashioneds from the happy hour menu before it ended. Both were excellent! The old fashioneds had a wonderful cherry aroma from the cherry wood and the veggies were crisp and paired well with the earthy hummus. However, when we ordered entrees about 10 minutes after we arrived, it took nearly 45 minutes for the food to come out. We figured arriving early and ordering quick-ish would've allowed the food to come out in a reasonable time for us to make it to our show on time. But, we ended up having to down our food quickly before dashing out the door (the sea bass was excellent, and the steak with the steak frites was undercooked). While waiting, we also ordered a glass of wine, which was forgotten at the bar and we had to ask where it was. The server was wonderful and planned to pack up some peach cobbler for us for dessert, but that also did not come and we ended up leaving without it since we were so rushed and couldn't flag her down.

It was a last minute find before going to the theatre and did not disappoint! Fast service and lovely atmosphere and staff

Lunch at Roanoke is always a pleasant experience. I had the Roanoke Salad and my guest had the Chili and cheese biscuits. The only reason I gave 4 stars is that there was way too much lettuce in the salad and seemed as if there was less chicken. The chili was good.
