Ok not worth the trip better cafes all over Devon especially the ‘get off my land signs all over the place ‘ not exactly friendly

Excellent food and service, as usual. Took friends there that had not been before and they loved it.

So disappointing. My New Zealand family suggested coming for lunch. The menu wasn't appealing and we had difficulty trying to order something that sounded appetising. It took a long time to be served. What we had was definitely overpriced. Mushrooms on toast, toast was extremely difficult to eat it was so hard. Mushrooms tasteless. The burger buns were burnt on the top. I wanted to send them back but my relatives didn't want to cause a fuss. I was apologising for the bumpy driveway approach in the car, trying to avoid pot holes. Not a pleasant experience. I do hope Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall reads his reviews.

Although we had booked we were kept waiting for over 5 minutes before we were seated. There was no acknowledgment of our presence. It took 45 minutes for any food to arrive. Only one person was preparing food, this wasn’t enough and impacted the whole service. Three people were waiting on tables but only one was working effectively. According to the website, specials would be available at lunch time as an alternative to the breakfast menu, there was a choice of one! We were disappointed. Views are stunning.

Good Afternoon Helen, I'm very sorry to hear that you weren't welcomed at the door, we try to greet all our guests as swiftly as possible with a bright smile and I'm very sorry we dropped the ball on this occasion. I will look into the wording on the website, since what we have actually started doing was change the menu over from breakfast to lunch at 11:30, so in the afternoon we have items such as our Satay Salad added on, in addition to our ever changing Daily Special. It’s ok. The food is good but expensive for what it is. It’s a cafe not a restaurant so none of the refined details that you would expect at that price. The B&B is nice too but there is mold on the tiles in the shower which is extremely unpleasant & gives the impression that the place is unclean. I expect they don’t want to use harsh chemicals such as bleach but white vinegar & bicarbonate of soda & some elbow grease would make a difference. The staff managing appeared stressed by the workshops which gives the feeling that the B&B is an afterthought or inconvenience. I was disappointed on the whole & expected something slicker.

Fantastic quality of food as you would expect from River Cottage but a very limited menu selection. I don't see why it would be too much bother for them to offer a roast on a Sunday, we used to really enjoy them when they did these at the old canteen. They do a daily special but it's otherwise just a breakfast bap.

To start with there were 2 or 3 dishes from the limited menu that had sausages on offer but they didn’t have any. Service was very poor and we waited a long time to get served and they just didn’t seem to be interested at all. Food was tasty and ok for price point. Glad it wasn’t busy. Very disappointed Hugh.

We enjoyed our visit, though we were ignored after being seated for ten minutes and had to ask to be given menus. The food arrived quite quickly but it was only just warm. We didn’t send it back though because it was tasty. The views are excellent. Overall we thought it could have benefitted from another member of staff being on duty.

It felt understaffed. Chef working really hard on his own. Food really delicious (portions a bit small but I didn’t mind) but service slow to get the food out with food waiting on the hatch too long. Took about 30 mins between asking if we wanted pudding to giving us menus to ordering. I think only 2 people front of house with quite a full cafe. Needed more.

Lovely atmosphere in the place and the cream tea was very good indeed. Had the luxk to meet Hugh while we were there so that was a great bonus.
