This was our first experience of Brunch, and a positive one it was. We'd booked to eat at the high top table, but decided on arrival to stay outside, hence the "quiet" review, as it wasn't terribly busy. The lady who looked after us was excellent - understood our novice status and guided us through the menu. She then produced a couple of outstanding coffees - double shot. Couldn't be improved upon. The food was a bit variable, however. My poached egg on smashed avocado and a muffin, with hollandaise sauce was simply great. Our serving of smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on sourdough toast was, however, disappointing. We serve this in our own Bed & Breakfast business and, while the salmon and the toast were delightful (with plenty of delicious smoked salmon...), the scrambled eggs were cruelly overcooked and so rather rubbery. It spoilt the dish. We also had pancakes with blueberry sauce, cream, maple syrup and streaky bacon (we serve a similar dish to this), which was very enjoyable, but the "pancakes" weren't actually pancakes. They were individual cakes baked in an oven, rather than fried on a griddle. Nice, but not what we expected. More excellent coffee followed, and we left replete and largely happy.
