Res American Bistro is a casual, yet elegant two level dining destination perfect for every occasion. Make a “Res” for a casual bite, a special night out, and everything in between! Our menu features fresh takes on contemporary favorites such as lobster tempura, roasted baby lamb chops, handmade pastas, and our 20-day butter aged NY Sirloin. My wife and I has a fantastic dinner at Res. We had one of their special seats for two siting side by side overlooking the street below. The food is unique and delicious. Bread is individual hot and crispy baguettes. The grapefruit bourbon sour was refreshing. There are a variety of dishes for all palates. We had the crab rangoons, Molly's shrimp, a salad, and the pappardelle with pulled roast chicken. Dessert was a mocha cake, which was just the right size and not too sweet. Everything was fantastic. And our waiter Michael was just the right mix of friendly, welcoming and attentive. We will definitely be coming back the next time we are in Providence.

The wedge salad was excellent! Burger was a great value for the dollar and a good burger! Temperature on the burger came well done and not medium well as requested. My husband’s steak was medium instead of well done. However, the waiter and manger were very apologetic and accommodating and made the experience pleasant! An apology goes a long way and we would definitely go back! Next time will try the lobster roll!

Had the whole upstairs with a party of 20. We had two wait staff assigned to us. They were absolutely amazing!!! We had govt guests from US and Int’l and everyone was so pleased with the evening!!

Booked a table here before a show at PPAC. VERY noisy. View from inside onto the street was not great as there was a crowd next door standing on the sidewalk outside a bar drinking and smoking. Wine list was unimpressive. Mrs had a cocktail that had so much ice that it was hard to know whether there was any alcohol in it, and hard to know what it was supposed to taste like. Service was SLOW. Our appetizers arrived before our drinks, and it wasn't that the appetizers arrived quickly. Mrs had a flatbread that was pretty good, cheesy with arugula. I had the RI-style calamari, which was also quite good, nice hit of heat from the cherry pepper relish, though the calamari was over-breaded for my taste. Entrees were salmon, decent but not outstanding, and "Moroccan-style" lamb rack. Lamb was served in an odd vessel, a bowl with a very wide lip making it the size of a plate. The small and thinly-sliced ribs of lamb were perched on top of a lumpy sweet potato puree that was, um, speckled with tiny pieces of asparagus. The lamb's seasoning was good, but the lamb itself was inconsistent with maybe one piece that was the desired medium rare and the rest medium to well. The menu promised 6 ribs, I got 4 plus another slice that was kind of like a rib. Didn't add up to 6 anyway. I speculated that the serving vessel was intended to disguise the small portion size. The entree priced at $39. Skipped dessert because the slow service forced us to hurry to make the start of the show. There are much better options than Res within a block.

We visited Res before our 8:00pm show at PPAC. The restaurant had a great energy. I wish we sat in a different area because I don’t love when tables for two are lined up and close to each other. I ordered a Rose and my husband had a beer. We split a Cesar salad for and appetizer. It was a great portion and a delicious salad. Fresh, the dressing was a perfect homemade dressing and the croutons were large buttery toasted squares. My husband ordered the butter aged sirloin which he said was cooked to perfection. I had the seafood risotto which was underwhelming without much flavor. The service was very attentive and I will give Res a second chance and try out another entree next time.

I always have a good meal at Res. It's the perfect spot to go for a great pre-theatre dinner. Always a winner.

Seated upstairs- our first time. Understand because of pre-theater dining the restaurant was packed. There has to be solutions to assist with the noise level. The bread is outrageously delicious! Good burger and value. Chicken nuggets dry, not special, Fries ok- not hot. Lobster tempura was overcooked. We asked not to put the aoli on the calamari- Came with it. Wanted marinara- Most likely will not return.
