Tenjin is phenomenal, highly recommend the pre fixe menu option, it's a terrific value and spectacularly good!

This was our first visit we had never been from the previous owners either. Food was excellent. We waited quite a while at the door till somebody decided to come over and asked us if we had a reservation. We were seated at a booth. Very nice. Our server had zero personality. It really wasn’t a ding against him but he needs to try to be more social to his guests. Everything was delicious. The only thing I noticed very different from any other sukiyaki. I have ordered which happens to be my favorite dish was here. They served with udon noodles and most often it’s served with a very thin, clear, cellophane noodles. It was good. But I prefer the traditional clear cellophane noodles. The shrimp tempura was outstanding . Tuna poke was wonderful the tuna steak was very good. They were a little pricey, and their glasses of wine $14. The bottle was 54 that was a little pricey. Also, next time I might opt for a corkage fee and bring my own wine. We will definitely be back.

Best authentic Japanese food. I’ve been going to the original restaurant Renga Tei for 30 years. The new owners have added new items and everything is amazing!

Tenjin is a hidden gem for authentic Japanese cuisine. From sushi to curry udon, every dish tastes like it came straight from a Japanese home kitchen. The sushi is fresh and expertly prepared, with a good selection of both classic and creative rolls. The curry udon was a standout - rich, flavorful, and comforting. It reminded me of the homemade version I had while visiting Japan. The restaurant's ambiance strikes a perfect balance between modern and traditional Japanese aesthetics. With ample seating, it's suitable for both intimate dinners and larger gatherings. The service is attentive and knowledgeable, with staff happy to offer recommendations or explain unfamiliar dishes. Cleanliness is clearly a priority at Tenjin. The dining area and visible kitchen spaces were impeccable, adding to the overall pleasant dining experience. Whether you're looking for a quick sushi fix or a leisurely meal of Japanese comfort food, Tenjin delivers on all fronts. New owners have kept the best of former Renga-tei and updated the menu. A solid traditional Japanese restaurant.

Tenjin is the quintessential Japanese restaurant. Owned and operated by a Japanese family and one can tell by the quality and care that is taken in everything from the service to the quality of the food itself. I have been to many different restaurants in Chicago, New York and elsewhere. I’m happy that there’s finally a restaurant that concentrates on food rather than show. Excellent!

We had a wonderful time celebrating my Dad’s 75th birthday last night. I posted on Facebook for all of our friends and family that loved Renga Tei, that Tenjin is even better! You have an amazing Prix Fixe menu that was perfect. Everything was amazing, the food and service were impeccable! 💕

Tenjin is a fantastic Japanese restaurant hiding in a low key strip mall. Simple ingredients, perfectly prepared and presented with excellent service. I need to go back asap for more tonkatsu curry!

We came back and brought our friends for a birthday dinner celebration. We were all impressed with all the items, everything was fresh, delicious and the staff were very attentive to us. We had the gyoza, potato croquettes, edamame, crispy tuna with jalapeño bites and few of their specialty rolls. - crunchy tuna - crunchy salmon - Tamago nigiri - dragon We also had the curry with pork! Actively spreading the word to our other foodie friends. Our bill was about 200ish and that included a cork fee of 30 dollars which was surprisingly affordable. We are very happy they provide a the cork fee option! Can't wait to try more items on the menu and the best part is they are only a few blocks away from our house so it's nice to walk over.

We love the new menu at Tenjin. The lunch was delightful, the service was outstanding, and we felt welcomed into the restaurant. We loved Renga-Tei and now we know we will love Tenjin just as much - if not more! Thank you so much for the amazing food. We decided we wanted to return every month for lunch so we could try everything on the menu!
