Bringing some LA vibes to the northeast. REGARDS draws inspiration from the diverse food culture of Los Angeles. We highlight flavor profiles from Japan and Mexico with the freshest of Maine produce and products.

The menu at REGARDS has bright, zippy ceviches and crudos, rich tamales, plump Argentinian shrimp tacos, along with mezcal cured hamachi collars, crab rice and grilled cabbage with caesar.

Clarified lime margaritas with eucalyptus or our gin and sotol martinis with hibiscus pair with our adventurous menu. We pour natural wine and have a large selection of curated mezcals and tequilas.

A place for us and for you. Might not make sense, but it sure is delicious. Across the street from Reny's. Nearby Maine College of Art, Portland Stage Company, State Theatre, Empire Comedy Club and Blue Jazz Club.

We reserved at Regards about a day in advance and the only time slot available was when they opened. As such, the ambience when from super quiet (we were the only people there) to moderate noise level when it became full about 40 minutes later. Their cocktails sounded interesting to us. The ones we picked tasted great. My wife ordered the L.A. Night and I opted for the Motivator. We had a glass of wine after this and finished the meal with a 1-ounce pout each of two different tequilas. About the food: - The home made corn tortillas were delicious. The aroma is incredible. - We started with an order of hiramasa ceviche. Unlike any other ceviche you might have tried this one uses a blend of citrus they call mandarin leche de tigre. It results in a less tart/citrus flavor. We are still not sure what we thought of it. - We also started with an order of avocado, and it was fantastic. They top it with some sesame seeds and a smokey chili paste oil that they get by blending three peppers together. Highly recommend this dish. - Our next plate was the tamale. The cornmeal of the tamale was freshly made and was light and delicious; the white mole sauce was good. - Next was the quesadilla, with pork carnitas. This was favorite dish of the night. It is served rolled up kind of like a burrito. The pork carnitas was perfectly shredded so that when you cut into the quesadilla, the meat separated easily. We were full after all this and skipped dessert. Service was attentive throughout the evening.

Came here for dinner for the first time and was thoroughly impressed! From the drinks to each plate, did not disappoint!

We were at Regards on a Friday evening and things were very busy. We had friends in from NY who are fairly sophisticated when it comes to food. The food was spectacular- quite different. Small plates meant to be shared. The service was attentive in the best possible way. They only problem is that the noise level is fairly high. However, overall, an outstanding dining experience.

First time back in a couple of years. Still wonderful. Each item is distinctive. Food is awesome. Service is terrific.

We enjoyed the experience. We loved the avocado and tamale appetizers. We also ordered pork carnita quesadilla and chicken tacos which were tasty but we would probably order something different next time. Everything together was shared by two people and we appreciated the help from the waitress on how to order so that we would not overdo it.

Truly creative cuisine using Mexican ingredients. (As far from Tex-Mex as you can imagine.)

The chef and his team are clearly passionate about their work, and the quality of their work shines in every detail. My husband and I really enjoyed the innovative menu options and the fun ambience. The wine list had interesting choices that often aren't on typical wine lists, and they paired nicely with the food. Our server was also extremely thorough in checking for, and highlighting, any items that could trigger specific food allergies, which I very much appreciated!

The oysters and queso are not to be missed! Small plates- truly. The shrimp tacos had a single shrimp each. But enjoyed every last bite! Our waiter was exceptional too- giving us great recs and providing witty banter. Recommend!!

So yummy! Everything was really really good. Would say was a little expensive for the size of the dishes but the taste really made up for it. Good spot to go to for a date night, but not a staple once a week kind of place. Drinks were very good as well. Would recommend
