Overall, my experience was very mid, if that. The restaurant wasnt even busy or packed when we got there. It took a couple minutes for someone to greet us and get us seated. I mentioned the restaurant wasnt packed but she still awkwardly seated us in between two parties even after we asked if we could get a regular table. Her excuse was those were all reserved for booked reservations already 😒 Out waiter was very nice and attentive. We ordered oysters & deviled eggs for our appetizers which came out pretty quick. Deviled eggs were not it. Flavor was lacking and the pork rind on top wasnt necessary. One of the oysters tasted bad so we were worried about getting sick from that. Thankfully, my best friend didnt cause she ate it. I wasnt feeling too confident about the appetizers so we opted to share the Oxtail Pepper Pot with Mac N Cheese & Broccolini which was a good idea because the portions were enough to share between two people. The oxtail came out with a side of white rice. The oxtail was very tender but I did not like the flavor. It was savory but the flavors werent mixing well together. It had chunks of red bell peppers and sweet plantains cooked together. The Mac N Cheese was dry and I like a creamy flavor for my mnc so I didnt like it. Broccolini was topped with parmesan and probably the best thing I ate. We mentioned it was my birthday so the waiter brought out some ice cream with a candle which I thought was sweet. Overall, I would not go back. We had reservations at 8:30pm and we left at 9:15pm. By the time we left, the place still wasnt even packed so I dont appreciate how the hostess was not willing to accommodate our seating request.

Been meaning to try this place out every time I’m in town. I’m glad I made my way there on this last visit. Loved the vibe, atmosphere and good food and drinks. Bartender was friendly. I’ll return for sure!

I went there to celebrate my friends birthday. We told the server and he never once said Happy Birthday or anything. He took our order and we didn’t see him again until we asked for the check. The food came out fairly quickly and was good but the service was terrible. Even when we ordered dessert, no acknowledgement was made at all. My friend was so disappointed.

The music was great! Our waitress Eska was so kind and helpful. The food was great!! I loved the chicken and waffles and my husband loved the chicken wings! We will return!

I had an awful experience yesterday. First Let me state unequivocally, I love what Mr. Samuelsson has done for Overtown and greatly respect him for his efforts. Also, the hostess and waitress were outstanding. The waitress was extremely professional and but for her I would not have remained. First the gospel singer was excellent and I am a big fan of this local artist. Unfortunately the volume of the vocalist and saxophonist was extremely loud and made the experience unbearable. The astute waitress notices and asked if my guest and I would like to move to the quieter private dining area which I gladly embraced. While awaiting the return of the waitress a server brought the food to the table and I explained we were being moved to the private area. The server took the food and left it on the table in the private area. After several minutes I became alarmed the food was getting cold. The server then place the food on the kitchen counter under the warming lamp. The waitress finally returned and explained we could not be moved because of a photo shoot in the private area. So we remained in the original seating area. The waitress stated she had the eggs prepared anew. Well, the eggs were so salty I literally could not eat them. The sausage was similar to rubber. And the grits were bearable. My friends shrimp and grits were so spicy she could not eat the meal. Total frustration! I should have sent the orders back but I just accepted it, and soon left. I visited the restaurant previously and enjoyed my meals. I tipped my usual 20% as I did not want to punish the waitress who was extremely nice, kind, understanding and courteous. I hope the restaurant survives. After the gospel singer completed her last set, there were few people remaining. I hope the restaurant and Mr Samuelsson receives this as constructive criticism. I strongly regret having to rate my experience.
