Inside, our pub has everything you could wish for in a traditional village local, including freshly prepared food, a fine selection of cask ales, open wood burning fires, traditional flagstone flooring and wooden beams, and extensive wine list. We also have a private function room that can cater for anywhere between 10 and 40 guests. Our outdoor seating areas are peaceful and relaxing, and you have a choice of seating, either overlooking the village green, where you can watch the world go by, or in our own colourful pub garden and patio area.

We chose this restaurant as it had been rated the best pub for a Sunday Roast on Trip Advisor. We therefore booked in to eat there the next day. Fortunately they still had availability for a late lunch so we plumped for a table for four at 14:45. It was an hour's drive from where we live but we hoped it would be worth it. When we got there we found a parking space without problem, and then found that the pub actually has its own car park around the back which still had spaces so you don't need to park on the road if you don't want to. The pub is very charming, with lovely friendly staff, a warm atmosphere and comfortable seating. The ambient noise level was the level you would expect from a busy pub and only added to the atmosphere. We didn't feel overlooked and we didn't feel like we were subjected to other peoples' conversations either. The service was a little slow because of how busy they were but the staff more than made up for it with their friendliness and good humour. And the food definitely didn't disappoint. My son had the burger and thought it was amazing, he even ate the gherkins. My wife had the beef and my daughter and I had the chicken. All of the food was perfectly seasoned, delicious and excellently prepared and presented. The yorkshire puddings are the size of a small hat, the chicken was tender and juicy and the beef was pink and perfectly cooked. The veggies (including roasted potatoes) are bottomless, which was a really nice touch. Despite being full we all had dessert because we'd seen other people's and they were equally delicious and generous. I had the basque cheesecake, which was simply incredible. I can't recommend this restaurant enough, especially our waiter Griff who really looked after us. This is definitely a restaurant where you can trust the reviews. We'll go back at the drop of a yorkshire pudding.

We visited for Sunday lunch with friends - the roast pork and the roast beef were excellent, as was the bottomless veg and gravy. The service was also exceptional. This was our first visit to the Red Lion, but we will definitely be back.

We were celebrating (for the second time this week) my Partner's Birthday, with an American friend. The Red Lion, which I knew from previous experience had guaranteed 'excellent dining' again did not fail us (sadly, the fries arrived too late) and we had excellent meals. One comment - being somewhat handicapped, I found the Gents with its extremely stiff door spring and insecure seat in the WC somewhat difficult. Otherwise - Highly Recommended and Excellent Value.

Food was delicious, especially the fish and burgers and the pie of the day. Service was a little slow but I could see the staff were rushing around and the pub was busy. We had a lovely evening.

The advertised lighter menu for Mondays had been replaced by an Early Week Menu which didn’t contain sandwiches which we wanted.

Booked online for my husband's birthday, after spending some time looking at other restaurants/pubs and people's reviews of where to go for good food/value for money, as an alternative to The Mill at Elstead, which we have regularly gone to, in the past. Introduced friends to The Mill too. We were just looking for a change. The staff at the Red Lion were friendly, but the food was not good. I ordered the crab and prawn linguine with parmesan - cost £20. When I ordered this dish I was asked if I would like mussels to be included, which I politely declined. When the dish arrived, there were just 3 prawns, barely any crab was present and certainly no parmesan included. The sauce was very watery. If they did not have all the right ingredients, I would have preferred that they told me so and I could have made another choice. I did not complain about this dish, due to it being my husband's birthday. My husband's steak and chips was okay. The steak was chewy, but the chips were lovely. Then came the dessert -banoffee pie. There was no banana, the toffee element was grainy and did not taste of toffee at all - it looked like it had very much past, it's sell-by-date - it was covered with canned squirty expresso cream, I suspect, to disguise this. It was so awful and at a cost of £8, I did then have to take it back to the bar and the cost of £8 was removed from the bill. The staff came across as friendly, a lovely location but the food was not at all, up to standard or value for money. There was no apology. Just told the cost of the pudding was taken off the bill. We did leave the min 10% tip. I did contact them directly, online yesterday about my concerns, with no response. Will not be returning. Such a shame as we had expected good food for the pricing charged.
