We are at our heart a pub. This is a place where you can stop for a while, eat delicious food and drink in the atmosphere.

Set in the beautiful village of Grantchester, our picture perfect, thatch roofed pub is a 2 minute walk from The Grantchester Meadows and a lovely 40 minute stroll along The Cam from Cambridge.

There was a barking dog at the next table, I only like well behaved dogs in pubs. Somebody stepped onthe dog and it yelped, so the owner put it onto her knee, with its head over the table. The waitress walked over, I thought she was going to suggest that the dog was put onto the floor, but she had come to stroke the dog. I am not a dog hater.

Meal very good, good choice and portions. One query, why can't the allergen information be printed on the menu itself instead a QR code, didn't help when I couldn't get a signal so had to ask the waitress anyway

Lovely warm, cosy country pub. However several areas needing refurbishment, in particular the women’s toilets which were very dirty and in terrible need of repair. My Mother nearly fell on a large, loose piece of broken floor tile. Only one hand soap in the whole bathroom and that was broken. Walls, ceilings, and all surfaces were very tatty. Rather humiliating as we had taken family there for a Birthday. It also led us to wonder how clean the kitchens were if customer areas were that bad. Not a nice thought after you’ve eaten. As always the car park was full but a 5-10 minute walk away street parking was available. Positives-Service was perfect, warm, attentive and helpful. Lovely location, ideal for a pre dinner stroll along the river.

Best service I’ve had for ages. Super friendly, very helpful, but not over the top. Food was great. We had a mix of things between us from roasts to salads to burgers. All were really big and really tasty. Lovely atmosphere. Recommended.

A fabulous Sunday lunch. Great Chicken, lamb and vegetarian Roasts. The extra side of Cauliflower cheese worth the treat. However service poor particularly male server. Twice totally blanked my daughter and then when I tried me too. No service except for landing the good food on our table of 5 adults. We all thought good was very tasty and great portions but service appalling.

It is correct that if choosing to eat outside, you need to order at the bar and we do not offer table service or apply a service charge to guests who do so. We do offer table service inside and I hope we get to welcome you again soon.

The meal was very average, and the service was slow. The roast not very warm, roast potatoes not well cooked and the Yorkshire puddings were flat and there was barely any gravy. Service was slow. I had to remind them about the additional sides, didn't clean up the plates and then charge 12% service charge.

This was a return visit to the Red Lion for me after a recent enjoyable visit in the Summer. The new prawn and monkfish curry was particularly delicious, a really good amount of fish and a nice subtle heat to the sauce, great value for money! The vegan burger was also well received. The restaurant has a nice casual atmosphere, with friendly service from the staff to make for a thoroughly enjoyable time.

Lovely Sunday lunch… fantastic helpful staff. Food could have been a bit warmer and found gravy a bit thin otherwise great lunch

The Red Lion relies on the fact of it’s having a car park in Grantchester and a children’s play area for its clientele. Its Sunday roast was the worst I have ever had. Nevertheless people flock to it and no doubt it will have no reason to improve on its food. The service was good.
