Red Dog Saloon is an Austin, TX Barbecue restaurant, serving 18-hour roast ribs, brisket, aged chuck steak burgers and much more, all best enjoyed with tasty cocktails or milkshakes.
Barbecue grew up in the South of the USA where cooks learned to slow roast cuts of meat over fire pits to make them tender. Exposure to the smoke of the smoldering wood added a distinctive smoky and juicy taste to the meat. Our award-winning smokers have been imported from the USA and are built to recreate the cooking process of those original fire pits. We use the traditional American woods of hickory and mesquite to give a full smoke flavor, and the meat stays in the smoker for up to 18 hours.

Food was dreadful, ribs were full of fat I actually couldn’t eat them was like eating jelly mush. Coleslaw tasted off and the chips were average.

Took the staff 25 mins to even take our drinks order ( we had to ask) food then took a hour to come out, waiter got our order wrong. Service was awful. The food was okay but not worth how much it was. Will not be returning.

Main was cold. Side was cold. Crisps were soggy. Pickles were missing. Spoke to our server and he didn't charge for the main as it was hardly eaten and didn't charge for the side which was completely un-edible. Partner's burger was fine. Although expensive as you do not get sides included.

I really want to give Red Dog Southampton 5 stars as we had an excellent meal but there are a couple of elements holding it back from the full 5 stars. Firstly, the reason we went - smoked meat and burgers were unquestionably a full 5. Delicious. Secondly the staff work really hard and don't stop. They try to accommodate as quickly as they can and timings were pretty perfect but because they try and split the service on one table between multiple staff there are some issues. We were delivered meals that were destined to other tables twice and were missing the sausage off of our platter. None of this hampered our experience and the staff were great but it holds them back from a full 5. The sides we had were mash and Mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was very basic with liquid American cheese whereas an authentic high quality Mac and cheese from America will use different cheeses and not be the toxic orange American cheese colour. The mash might as well have come from Tobey Carvery as it was just ok mash and gravy. A bit lumpy but edible. No dirty fries available. I want to finish my review on a positive note and say that we had an excellent time and thought that they executed their Unique Selling Point (smoked meat and burgers) perfectly and we would recommend this place to anyone and will be back. 4/5 total score with some constructive criticism to boot.

Red dog used to be our number 1 favourite place to eat - would go here every weekend without fail! Not sure what changed - maybe a new chef? but the food now is not at the quality it was before. the prices have increased drastically and the food quality has majorly decreased. The burgers are tasty and full of meat which is great, but for an average price of £20+ per burger, i don’t feel it’s worth it. sadly will not be eating here again as we have now had 3 bad experiences - being the most recent 3 times here.

Love the restaurant- loved the food- it was busy but the service was lacking. We usually tip very well for good service but couldn’t even justify the 10% on the bill. Will definitely be back but hopefully the personal touch improves, it was just “can I take your drinks order” “can I take your food order” nothing personal but having worked in hospitality- putting in that extra for the customer does go a long way. Had to ask 3 different people for side plates as most forgot to bring them. Etc etc Was a good evening for our anniversary but shame about the service.

Came yesterday on a date and ordered the USS oregan. When ordering we were told they had no beans and would we like fries instead we agreed. When the platter arrived we noticed there was only one sausage we asked the waiter if there should be two and he went off and asked his colleagues, he came back and said I’ll go and get you another. When he returned he told us the chef had said no it’s just one. We explained to are paying for two people so surely there should be two, but left it like that. We finished the food which was lovely apart from the mash which was really nice but a little cold. And ordered two sticky toffee puddings which took a good 30minutes to come out and when they did the waiter said that one had gone funny and asked if we would still like it after having a look the bottom looked raw and sloppy so we decided to send it back, we didn’t get offered another dessert to replace it the waiter just brought another spoon over to share the one good dessert. When we asked for the bill we noticed they had charged us for a side of chips I explained that the lady that first served us had explained that there were no beans and did we want chips instead so we shouldn’t have to pay for them. The waiter then walked off and another waiter brought us the revised bill. The food was delicious but other things let it down.

Too noisy on a Saturday night if you want to talk properly. Quite pricey for what you get. Food took a long time coming because it was busy and when ours arrived it was cold and we had to send all four meals back then wait a further 20 minutes !
