Step into 1st floor RAILS Restaurant for a buzzy and relaxed dining experience. Expect a great modern British-French grill with succulent meat, fish and vegetable dishes served with sauces and sides, and the best moments from a Parisian brasserie menu, not to mention interiors.

Frenchie cocktails and digestifs top off the occasion from the adjoining Little Bar, wrapped in William Morris wallpaper dressed in eclectic art.

In addition, GNH Bar and Terrace, a bustling and welcoming space, blending British heritage with world influences welcomes you downstairs on the street level. The GNH Bar is open every day from 9am to 11pm.

Took over 10 minutes for anyone to even come over to the table when it wasn’t even that busy. Waitress didn’t really understand what I was asking half the time and she was very quiet and not very good English. It took almost half an hour for the food to arrive. The bread was very very dry on the sandwich’s and the cake was also very dry. It was a nice restaurant and the scones were amazing, although they could have given more jam and cream. In the end it was a nice experience but would have been better if the food and service had been better.

Unfortunately we did not have a good visit. When we sat at the table there was chewing gum when my friend opened her napkin. They apologised but failed to bring a new napkin until half way through the meal. Again the host apologised. The food was frankly very poor quality. My main was actually difficult to eat (crispy mushrooms and artichokes). So was the pork belly which 2 of the party went for. Basically it was markedly poorer quality food than you’d ever get at say a cote brassiere but was three times the price. Our waiter was nice but very inexperienced and when asked what she’d recommend she acknowledged she was a fussy eater so wouldn’t be able to recommend anything. The room is very attractive and the staff were pleasant but the food was very bad and the service spoke of inexperience. It was also almost empty. A really disappointing visit.

We had a fabulous lunch and the people at Rails were very charming, helpful and a rarity, in some venues, friendly and kind. We felt like we were real customers whom they were happy to accommodate and will happily book again. As a final aside I left an opal ring in the bathroom and it was handed back to me. Honest customers and staff. Fantastic. I’m very grateful.

Lovely setting, good food & wine, excellent service in the bar for pre-dinner drinks. Background music a little high so we asked for this to be turned down and it was :-).
