Sur la High Street, il vous suffira de repérer un hall tout en verre pour comprendre que vous êtes arrivé au Quod restaurant, le véritable sanctuaire du Hold Bank Hotel, avec son bar et sa terrasse spectaculaire. Cet ancien hall de banque à été transformé par le propriétaire Jeremy Mogford, qui en a fait le plus grand et le plus réputé des restaurants d’Oxford. Son décor est élégant et contemporain. L’espace est harmonieusement optimisé et abrite une incroyable collection d’art contemporain, dont les oeuvres de Sandra Blow, de Craigie Aitchinson et de Gary Hume, qui ornent magnifiquement les murs. La terrasse chauffée est exceptionnelle. Vous pourrez y déguster un délicieux dîner à un très bon rapport qualité/prix, mais aussi profiter tranquillement d’un café, ou savourer un des divers cocktails de l’établissement.

Afternoon Tea in Quod

Take part in the most traditional English pastime of afternoon tea in the heart of Oxford. With its large windows looking onto the famous colleges, Quod is the perfect stopping point during a walk of the city. Enjoy classic egg & cress or ham and mustard sandwiches, homemade scones with clotted cream and jam and a cup of tea or perhaps a glass of champagne. In the summer months tea can be taken on our recently refurbished Italian garden terrace.

Excellent food as ever and lovely serving staff. I have various food allergies and they always adapt dishes without a fuss. This is definitely head and shoulders above the other restaurants in Oxford. It is a spacious place and you are not on top of other diners. They have poached fruit dishes for dessert so there’s something for those prefer a fruit based treat for dessert.

We booked a table for four for 6 pm on a Wednesday night. The restaurant was busy but not too crowded with the sort of buzz that makes Quod a go-to-place. From the moment we were met by the front of house till later when we left the service was very efficient and friendly, without being in your face. There was a good choice on the menu and specials board and all four of us enjoyed our 2 courses (shared starter and a main each). I can only vouch for my half dish of scallop and prawn grantin, that was delicious, and my beefburger (with cheese and bacon topping), that too was delicious and cooked to perfection. If you have not been to Quod before, besides the food there is a comprehensive drinks menu and if like me you are a beer drinker, you are not excluded. So thank you Quod for giving us thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours.

Our lovely waitress really made the evening - didn't catch her name but think she is South African and she was just wonderful. Cheerful, helpful, efficient and understanding of our need to be served quickly. Food was all excellent and there was a lovely atmosphere. Very kind of our waitress to mention that we were there for a graduation and to get a lovely congratulations ice cream plate brought out for my daughter - a lovely touch.

Overall our experience was very good and the waiter was excellent. My only complaint is where we were initially seated. I booked a couple of months before the Tuesday. The party of 6 in front of us had turned up without a booking and were given a table in pleasant surroundings. We were given a table right by the door into the garden where all the waiters would walk past and it was slightly chilly. We most of our party would have to have kept their coats on.2 we’re elderly. I went to the reception to ask if we could move and the person at the reception said said they only had a table for 6. As we were a party of 5 we were already sitting at a table for 6!!! Fortunately, we were moved and the rest of the time we really enjoyed. This marred my experience a little as we had purposely booked The Quod for my daughter’s graduation. When booking the table I had written this on the form. I am not someone who usually complains but felt I had to on this occasion as this was a day my daughter had worked hard for and I had been really looking forward to celebrating.
