Prelude is a restaurant that is reimagining Southern cuisine. As a team, we will produce and serve nostalgic Americana food and drink, inspired by the Bay Area. We will be using some of the best produce in the world, combining modern high-level cooking techniques and recipes passed down through the generations of our Chef Celtin Hendrickson-Jones maternal family. Our offerings will be available in two menu formats: a multi course pre-fixe menu with options for guests to handpick their dining experience, and “salon menu” featuring quick bites to larger plates, all ordered at the guest's discretion.

    My husband and I had an amazing date night at Prelude. We both had the Tasting Menu, which allowed us to try a little bit of everything and boy were we glad we made that choice. Every single dish we had was out of this world. When asked which was our favorite it was too hard to single one out. This is fine dining at its best and getting a view of watching the Chefs work so diligently as they prepare their master pieces was a true treat. The executive Chef Celtin clearly pays attention to every detail, is quick with a smile for guests and his staff, and makes it all look so enjoyable and a labor of love. We were so full leaving the restaurant! I could not give a higher recommendation.

    The tavern-like ambience is chic and exciting. Sophisticated take on casual comfort food with attentive, friendly, knowledgeable service. We chose the catfish dumplings and pork belly as starters - both were interesting but not exceptional. For such a high price, we expected the wagyu ribeye to be much more substantial. The take on the banana tart was very fresh and interesting - still not sure how we feel about it. LOVED the hominy grits and the garnish options that allowed you to choose your own adventure with them. The pork chop was also delicious. Looking forward to returning to see what else chef Celtin and the team dream up.

    For 13 years I've dreamt of someone in SF making truly elevated Southern food. Something that would bring deep memories back for us homesick folks and change the minds of anyone who assumed Southern food had to be heavy or uncouth. Prelude delivered on a goal I didn't think was possible. It was honestly therapeutic for my Southern heart. Fried chicken so good they could just serve it to go and be a hit. The catfish dumplings changed my life. The ambrosia salad a salve to many a Sunday picnic trauma. Chef and service were amazing. Host, somm, everyone was very kind and welcoming. Prelude will do many many things, but to me they are already doing it. The only restaurant I booked a follow up appointment to before I left. Literal therapy. Bless y'all.

    Overall great. Very friendly servers and fun to see into the kitchen, though it was a little odd to sit in the middle when most of the side tables were not occupied. Stuffed chicken was the best. Weirdly, both when we entered and when we wanted our jackets, there was no host at the front.

    It was the perfect date night spot. I came here solo and enjoyed a feast! The staffs are super attentive and service was beyond expectations. Food was very unique for a southern charm and taste great!

    Service was impeccable. The ambiance is warm and virtually noiseless. The food was too precious, however, and fussy for my taste.

    Prelude was amazing! It checked all the boxes. Quiet, well designed cozy environment, top notch service from everyone who served us and delicious creative Southern dishes! Can’t wait to return!

    The setting is beautiful and the service was perfect ( relaxed and attentive) but the reason you should go is the food. Our meal was spectacular, every dish we had was a home run of innovation and flavor. In a city with a lot of really good food- Prelude is a standout.
