This relatively new restaurant is a hidden gem! With both a Hungarian and an Italien chef, the food is true to form! Found it by chance walking Ventura , it is in a very small strip mall so look carefully. Both cuisines are prepared and presented elegantly by terrific waitstaff or the chef/owner himself who deboned our Dover sole at the table. Served simply with amazing cherry?tomatoes and a secret basil/ parsley/ garlic side condiment, the flavors burst !! Too much to rave about ….i try a different dish each time I come.. Go check it out yourself. I bring all my guests from out of town and local friends here . So glad I found it ❤️

My friends and I had a really nice time at Posto 896. Paul and the crew really went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. Can't wait for the next opportunity to return!

Excellent food and service. Hungarian dishes are tasty; listen carefully to menu explanations as Hungarian food is unusual in Los Angels area.

My friend and I ate here Friday night. We were attracted to the Hungarian food side of the menu (they also serve Italian food). We both started with soups. She had an amazing Tarragon soup. It was so good she almost licked the bowl! I had the beef Gulyas soup. It was quite good—but I’ve been to Hungary so many times, it was hard for them to compete. For our main courses, she ordered the beef stew Hungarian style over spaetzle. Marvelous! I had the chicken paprikash. It brought back many memories. We accompanied our meal with Kekfrankos, a rich red Hungarian wine that was perfect. The service was excellent and helpful throughout our meal. We will definitely return!

Excellent first visit to this restaurant. The staff excellent, attentive, and informative. We had Hungarian dishes and both were fantastic. Definitely will be back again.

We ordered from the Hungarian side of the menu. Each of our dishes were delicately but perfectly seasoned. The Taragon Soup was a standout and the ground beef and turkey filling the sour stuffed cabbage was savory. The servers were helpful and cheerful

Always extraordinary. Last night was, I think, our fifth visit, and we’ve had consistently wonderful food, wine and service each time. Posto 896 is been one of only two restaurants we consider for special dinners – birthdays, anniversaries and the like – but I’m going to have to start coming more often, and at more times of the day. I might even explore the Italian side of the menu one of these years if I can ever tear myself away from the Hungarian comfort food I grew up with!

This was a great experience. It started with the nice clean and modern seating area. It continues with the chef and owner greeting us and giving us insight into the food and his vision for the restaurant. The staff was also very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Food was delicious including the sour cherry and the tarragon soups are a must and the chicken paprikas and roasted pork cubes are elite. There is so much I still want to try. I highly recommend.
