Nestled beneath the steep slopes of Porthminster Point, right on the beach with unbeatable and uninterrupted views across St Ives Bay to Godrevy Lighthouse. Now open all year round for coffee, lunch and dinner.
Porthminster Cafe in St Ives is a multi award winning seafood restaurant. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The café specialises in Mediterranean and Asian seafood cuisine and is an oasis of taste and visual beauty.

Most beautiful setting, however this was ruined by the poor service and attitude of the waiting staff after I choked on a piece of stringy leek a cut lengthwise (so stringy and fibrous that it could not be cut with the a knife). Quite a terrifying experience. Luckily my lunch party and another very kind guest came to the rescue, while the waitress shockingly ran away. No one from the waiting staff came to check that I was ok. When I suggested that the kitchen should perhaps not continue to serve the leek in this way, we were advised by the manager that to his knowledge no other guest had choked on the leek - not particularly helpful or ‘risk-aware’ in the circumstances! Despite the rest of the food being very good, the lack of concern demonstrated by the staff together with the poor and rude service, was appalling and put a damper on our celebratory lunch. They should not be serving food which is harmful and could have dire consequences!

Quite simply, one of the best Sunday Roast Lunch I have ever eaten out. I don’t normally enjoy Sunday Lunch out but this was very different. Roast Sirloin was melt in the mouth, served with an Oxtail Dumpling topped with a quenelle of horseradish cream, crispy Yorkshire pudding, and a generous side of outstanding vegetables (not boiled rubbish but fabulously flavoured and perfect). All of this was accompanied by excellent friendly attentive service and fabulous views. The fact that it’s very dog friendly makes it even better (ours had a lovely time).

We have been going annually for about 30 years now … the views, the ambience, the food combine to make this a special place which, when the sun shines on an out of season day, can feel perfect.

I have wanted to visit this place for years, having lived near St Ives years ago. I finally booked using OpenTable. Once again disappointed with OpenTable for their booking system and now for the review system, second time in two weeks this website/app has failed to deliver. And the restaurant, best lobster I have ever had, I told the waitress but she didn’t seem that bothered. She left her shift before we finished and sat outside having a beer. The bill came from someone who hadn’t got a clue what kind of a meal we had had. No one had the courtesy to ask if our food was ok! Scallops were cut up as if a child was going to eat them. It’s all a bit too minimalist, not a lot and very overpriced. We won’t be going back!

Excellent evening the food was very good. The staff could not have been better. They were warm,friendly and extremely efficient nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend it highly .
